ok guys...im looking for some opinions on this:

I run a small DJ company (www.zerolimit-dj.ipfox.com) and am trying to bring in more gigs:
I cater mostly to high schools and small parties.

I have instituted a new "package deal" in which the price of the next gig that one books with me decreases:

1st - 350 (includes lighting)
2nd - 260 (does NOT include lighting)
3rd - 200 (does NOT include Lighting)
4th - 150 (does not include lighting)

Restrictions:
-Limited to 4 Gigs unless otherwise stated in the restrictions.

-Valid Only If 1st Gig is $350/4 Hours/Incl Lighting or
If 1st Gig is $375+/4 Hours/Incl Lighting then $350 becomes 2nd Gig (will Incl Lighting)
$265 becomes 3rd Gig (Lighting Not Incl)
$200 becomes 4th Gig (Lighting Not Incl) $150 becomes 5th Gig (Lighting Not Incl)

-Lighting May be added for $50 per gig if it is indicated that lighting is not included

-All Gig are 4 hours maximum. Additional fees will apply if more than 4 hours.

-Valid starting Sept. 1, 2006

-Unless dates are given upfront, we cannot guarentee that a date you give us later will be available. However, you are guarenteed the price listed.

-The dates for gigs are offered on a first come first serve basis.

- Offer is valid for only events occuring within current school year.

Regular Fees:

4 Hours - 350 (no lighting) ; 395 (lighting)
3 Hours - 300 (no lighting) ; 350 (lighting)

What do you guys think?

Keep it simple

How about this:

1st "Gig" regular price $350 (or whatever it is at that time)

Hire you for a 2nd Gig and get 20% off ($280)

Hire you for a 3rd Gig and get 30% off ($245)

Hire you for a 4th Gig and get 40% off ($210)

Hire you for a 5th! Gig and get 1/2 off ($175)

All Gigs must be completed within 6 or 12 or 18 months - you pick

I wasn't going to go for the 50 percent off, but since you were willing to give your services away so cheap, I figured why not.

How about this:

First gig at full price.

Second gig and third gig at 20% off.

All subsequent gigs at 30% off.

Anything more than 30% off is ridiculous........either the full price is too high or you'll work effectively without profit........neither is a good thing.

you both bring up excellent points...

I like Larry's idea...I am going to adapt the program near that...

Brian makes a good point about working effectivly w/o profit...I've had the company for near 5 years now and everything is payed off...so more or less everything now is profit...

FULL PRICE: 375 L = 375 L
10% OFF : 340 L = 340 L
20% OFF : 300 NL = 350 L
30% OFF : 260 NL = 310 L
40% OFF : 225 NL = 275 L

What do you guys think about that?
Also: In the beginning we did gig's for $50..which actually CUT into the dance's profits...But that was 5 years ago and I was but a lowly freshman in HS...

Give them a time limit if you're going to quote them an actual price, say 3 months. Who knows, your prices may be $600 when the time comes for them to book the second gig. You don't want them to call you on the $175 price two years later.

Better offer a discount. The more you charge, the bigger a discount they get. Win-win.

I did. I knew the people from my hs would try that kind of stuff:

Discounts are for beggars, if you provide good hassle free service they will pay more than full price.

hahaha...you should tell that to my high school...

they went the cheap way once (my junior year..i was class VP) for prom..went with some other guy named DJ Bob...the seniors complained and complained about him and told me (while we were there) that I should have done it. I offered to do it. $300. They had the money..there was plenty left over...but hey..thats what happends when you cheap out..

they've done that four or five times...same results each time...

to up the mood and increase the price by $100.

and/or: call your existing and prospective customer base and find out specifically what it is about your service the they appreciate and what they would like to see different/have more of (Sound quality/quantity,smoke,flickering lights) etc. and adjust your service offerings accordingly.

and/or: start songs with a great diesel roar!!
