Try here...

or

or

Probably not the answer you want to hear but there is no good way for the average Joe (or Jane) to check out a lawyer unless the good counselor has done some heinous deeds that have become part of a public record.
With that said take a look at A M Best web site: http://www.ambest.com/ Best's tends to center around Banking and Insurance and won't tell you any despicable characters it will however highlight those with expertise.
http://abanet.org is another resource. And of course ask for references, due diligence is paramount.

thanks guys.

the colorado supreme court website says the guy is clean i.e. no disciplinary action history.

That doesn't mean anything. There are several members here from Denver, one of whom is a lawyer, I believe. Start a thread titled something like "Forum Members from Denver Help" or something and get one of them to check on the guy. Aklim's right--what do you want to know? Competency in a certain area, ect....?

Let's see... Jen's preggy, asks about peeing in the shower, and now wants to check out a lawyer.... Jen, is there something you're not telling us?

Checking on lawyers

Best way to check on a lawyer is to go get a beer then go to the river and see if the air bubbles are still rising from the bottom of the river...no bubbles = you got'er done....

I deal with attorneys on a daily basis. Quality varies widely. I don't think that you can find an objective database that measures competency. It's all word of mouth. Recently, I asked an attorney who passes himself off as proficient in business law for his client's Corporate Certificate of Good Standing. He didn't know what it was. That's like telling a dentist that you have a toothache and the dentist not knowing what a tooth is.

Caveat emptor.

You've got to be kidding right? Does he not know how to get on his state's Secy of State office website?

He knows how to get to Atlantic City, or the local Happy Hour. After that? Forget about it.
