WW2 era dogfight, FW-190 vs Spit.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1956632029044699174&q=dogfight&hl=en

Don't usualy like these types of video's but this one is pretty good. The FW190 is amazing as usual, with the Rammstein sound track.

The 190 had those wonderfull 20mm guns mounted on its nose if my memory serves me. They are extremly usefull, low cycle rate but they will chew up anything they hit.

The Spit on the other hand was pretty lightly armed, you needed to poor the lead on, so to speak.

The Germans always put large caliber weapons on there plans, the Brits about 30cal, and the Americans pretty much all 50's. The downside is that German plans never carried that many rounds and the larger guns had a slow cycle rate, downside in a fast pace fight.

Cool clip. The MG 151 20mm's were inboard wing-root/fusealage mounted on the FW-190. They were too big to put over the engine cowling and too heavy to mount further outboard on the wings. You might be thinking of the Messerschmidt Bf-109, which actually had the lone 20mm fire through the centre of the propeller spinner, mounted above the inversely positioned engine.

Correction - looks like I spoke too soon myself. I checked and the BF-109 had its cannon in the wings as well. It was a machine gun in the spinner, which was dropped in later variants due to vibration.

According to Chuck Yeager the FW 109 was the only German plane that could match the Mustang.
Also in later years the mustang had a "B" series that had 2 extra guns for a total of 6.
