Wood stove this winter.

I finished installing our new wood stove last night... it's a soapstone stove with a 3.2 cf firebox...

More can be found in this thread at hearth.com where I am 'Marty'.

Those guys are great for all your hearth issues btw.
I can't wait to stop paying the gasman.

Now I just need some wood!

Thanks. I'm in my rookie season of wood burning but have high hopes.

Out here I wouldn't buy a house that didn't have a wood stove. It's so wet in the winter that mold starts growing. Once you've got it in your house it's a terrible ordeal. A lot of people learn the hard way not to put their furniture snug up against the wall...

Wood stoves seem to be the best way to keep your house heated. You can be nice and toasty without spending an arm and a leg. Especially if you've got some trees on your property.

And when you get a bit pi$$ed off about whatever, you can just go out and chop some wood.

They're awesome! A cousin of mine installed one and we visited in the winter - it was a Jotul wood-burning insert and it created a ton of heat! The nice bonus is they're also attractive units!

Far better than the conventional fireplace (like mine) that looks pretty but sucks all that expensive heat out...

I'm hoping to install one soon (after I wade through the various by-law requirements and code updates)...

The site I linked above is full of helpfull guys... installers, inspectors, and plain old wood burners who can give you guidance if you run into any confusion.

I'll bet I paid a hundred bucks a month in ga$ bills just to let that hole in my roof sit there without a fire burning in it last year.

I like it. You can have nice cozy sex right in front of it while smelling the aroma of fresh burning wood. Sexy if you ask me.

That nice looking stove should do the trick nicely.
Years ago, my folks bought a Vermont Castings wood stove. Load the thing up with wood at night, and in the morning there would still be enough left to keep the fire going if you wanted to. Kept over 2k sq. feet of house warm, in the middle of a Michigan winter. (we did turn on the blower in the forced air system for circulation)
