I'm in trouble

My 3 year old is learning how to read. WTF? 3 years and 3 months?

You should consider yourself lucky: I read an article today about how a three year old in England actually bought a car on ebay while his mother was preoccupied in another room. He liked the picture and hit the "buy it now" button!

Here's the article:

Sitting on your knee watching you read and write has an awful lot to do with a precocious child's wanting to learn. You and Mrs Kuan gave him two things, a suite of genes that define his potential and your love for your child, from which he will learn to love things outside of himself.

Much of the rest your child will learn from emulation. You love reading and writing? I'll bet Mr & Mrs Kuan both read a lot on your own and also to the little Kuanlet.

Very cool! Now get him started right, get some literature on the S550, and get working on the good taste part!

Thats a good thing. Teach him an appreication for fine literature early! There are too many people who dont like to read... I think its because as a child they didnt read alot.

Heh, thanks for the encouragement everyone.

So we just got back from the Lakeshore Learning. Bought a bunch of stuff to encourage him. There was this book with a Mini next to CAR, I said uh uh, nope, my kid's not growing up thinking a Mini is a real car!

They say children are ready to learn to read after they've had 3000 books read to them. That's only three a day. We've certainly done that in the past three years.

Maybe it's in the soil up there...

Kuan, you're in the Twin Cities, right?

I grew up there and was reading by my 3rd birthday. Toilet training actually took longer, sez Mom... guess I always wanted to be able to read in the reading room, eh?

As a very early reader it doesn't surprise me one bit...

Glad I could help.

Use J.S.Mill's education as an example for him.

From my way past experience now, the biggest limit to those little minds is the amount of effort they require from us. They are surely little sponges when young and can learn very quickly many complicated things.
My advice, encourage everything possible, especially encourage thinking and how to learn. Break the TV.
