Does it cost allot to keep a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow series II 1975 model? Its just that i found one to buy and just wondering if they brake down allot or are they reliable like the s-class?

i dont really know.

but i have looked under the hood on one once. some things looked very different from any other car i have seen.

and there is probably not a forum like this to turn to for help.

i think the basic quality is very good though.

If you have never worked on a Rolls Royce, and are not familiar, I do not reccommend the purchase of one. It is not a matter of how much it costs to fix, as the lady on the hood, demands that you spend every dime you own on it.They're very reliable vehicles, but very costly, and you absolutely have to find someone thats familiar with working on the vehicles, not to mention the vehicles take many special tools, and you need to own a set of british standard wrenches and tools.

Is all the chrome and stainless steel in good shape? That alone costs a fortune, but they're badass when they're fixed up right.

What is this? the forum of Lost Souls?they,like many expensive "well engineered cars"like the Aston Martin Lagonda were bought by people who could afford to have them gone over twice a year and to whom money was not an issue in that regard.

Had one,worked on a few..Citroen-based hydraulics,complicated triple circuit brakes that always need adjustment,why the parts alone for rebuilding the system were $3,200.00 and this was 10 years ago!

Let's rather not get into the suspension and the $elf leveling unit!!!

There are plenty of Shadows of the '72-'77 vintage around here in the $7,000-$12,000 range,the rubber seals all leak,leaving dry rot and a horrible musty odor inside,most other things are neglected as well.

In closing,every car has components that will,if neglected wear out and fail,it's simply that some are more complex and expensive than others.

It's a question you must answer yourself. Look through the RR Forumhttp://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/index.php If you find the problems their owners are having and can understand some of the components they are writing about - maybe a RR is your ticket. Love the car but I'm sticking with handling vacuum problems.

I LOVE Rolls-Royce and Bentley, however they can bankrupt the uninformed.
Study the vehicle you desire, educate yourself.
There are NO stupid questions, even if you think you know the correct answer, on Rolls-Royce and Bentley it is probably different.

A few prices to consider...
The rear axle half shafts are $2,000.00 USD each.
All wiring is British automotive standard code, this means don't allow unqualified others to touch it.
Rebuilding the front steering suspension can run $14,000.00 USD.
Repairing the hydraulic system averages $8,000.00 USD.
A rebuilt engine averages $28,000.00 plus shipping/handling/taxes/import fees.
