I bought a Harley
Supposed to pick it up on Saturday. It is a 2004 model Road King with 1500 miles. I am as excited as a kid at x-mas. It has been in storage for about a year and will take a couple weekends to clean up but should turn out to be a nice ride. So much for the wrenching on weekend. The last road bike I owned was a 1988 BMW R100RT that I sold in 1990 after the first boy was born. I sold it and used the proceeds to purchase a puter.

Road Kings are nice. The seat is higher than I prefer, but that's the tradeoff for having the full-size frame. I rode a 2000 for a few hours back when it was new, and loved every minute of it.

That's a sweet ride, congrats. I hear those twin cam motors are pretty powerfull and smooth. I don't think you will miss the Beemer very much.

I had a H-D for about five years. Maybe it's time for a BMW. I do like some of them.

One thing about those bikes, once you buy one, you're instantly part of a brotherhood/sisterhood of riders internationally. Other riders will be willing to help you out just because you "get it" and own one of these.
If you are on the road and have mechanical trouble, and can get to the nearest HD dealer, the policy as I understand it, is that anyone "on the road" with trouble AUTOMATICALLY goes to the head of the line in the service department over all other HD customers, even those customers with appointments that were already made. That little policy speaks volumes and other marques both 2 and 4 wheeled ought to consider emulating it. Are you going to join HOG? They have runs and activities ALL the time, should you want to take advantage of them. Another thing, I still am waiting to see my first "Honda" tattoo!!! Enjoy!!!

Hope is serves you well and you find a lot of time to ride. Most of all, keep the rubber side down.
Here is another forum that I belong to, really active. Sorta mirrors this forum. Check it out www.v-twinforum.com

Congrats on the Road King. Back in '97 I debated getting a King or a Dyna. Settled on the Dyna, because I wanted the big twin, but a light and nimble chassis.9 years later, the FXDS is still purring along as I near 50K. The ONLY time it didn't bring me home from anywhere was when I picked up a nail and had to leave it at a dealers on a Sunday, when the shop was closed.
When I get around to it, my next bike will likely be a Road King, as I am partial to the rubber mounts. Consider HOG. I've been in 12 years. Met many wonderful people and had many great experiences and travels on HOG events. More on HOG can be found at the HD website or call 1-800-CLUBHOG for membership info. Good Luck Jim. Ride Safe. Ride Free. Ride Far. |

What's the difference between a Harley rider and a Hoover vacuum cleaner?
The position of the dirtbag! Just kidding. Be very safe. It's not a matter of if you wreck, it's when. I had three pretty close friends that rode. One is dead, one wrecked and will never ride again, and the last owns a cycle shop so he will ride again. Two of the wrecks were caused by other drivers and one was due to a bad tire. |
