Personally, I like the little bit of flash on a classic car. I'm having my 240 D repainted and I have every intention of laying up a double stripe.

Still wondering what color I'm gonna go with. I was thinking of a daring oxblood stripe on the classic white baby.

Depends on the color combo. Dark color paint, no way. White, yellow, grey, red, maroon.... maybe.

im not talking about the sticker across the sides.. im peeling mine off soon.. it looks soo stupid. but if your talking about what im thinking then its sweet

im thinkn a nice piece on the hood complimenting the hoodstar and one on the trunk where the emblems are also complimenting the star

The po on the SDL put a red pin strip on it. At first I didn't like it but know its grown on me, when I get it repainted I'll find someone good and have them redo it.

The SD has cheap sticker pin strips, if you are going to get them have them painted on. Stickers just look so bad, horrible detail work.

I know a guy I used to work with in Randolph, MA who is a former sign painter.

He does gold leaf work and put pinstripes on his mini-Van and Nissan Sentra.

I won't say that I agree with his taste in cars, but as for striping he's pretty good.

i don't much care for the fancy schmancy whirligig pinstriping - reminds me of the Old West. But, a long mean stripe down the side is just too cool.

His stripes are very straight but with a little hook at the end that comes across as a subtle flourish, unmistakably "made by hand"

Yeah I like two straight stripes down each side of the W126. To accent the body line that runs down the side. With the currant ones the top stripe is just a bit bigger than the bottom, and they fade out on both ends. Nicely done.

To much pin striping looks dated and belongs on a tractor trailer IMHO.

Here's a mockup of what I'm thinking about.

I also "debadged" this image, but as much as I'd like to, I think I might not weld up those holes.

BTW, this is not my car, I'm with a full federal, also pictured below as of yesterday.

Opinions?

the painted strips are nice.

they help make the car look longer and lower.

extra ones anyplace else would not be my cup of tea.

on my 37 chebby there were a couple of stripes on the wheels. from the factory.

I just removed my sticker stripes on my 85 300SD because they were missing some patches - used an eraser wheel in a variable speed drill. While I'd rather have no stripes than imperfect stripes with missing sections, I do notice they're gone. My car is maroon and the stripes were gold and the look kind of grew on me. I would replace them if the opportunity was right, but first I would like to repaint the whole car.
