Hunter S. Thompson...sex, drugs, speed, politicsl

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro....

Anyone have favorite quotes from him?

From "Rules for driving fast"

Have no smallwrecks. If you are going to loop out and hit something,
hit it hard. Never mind that old-school physics bull**** about Irresistible Force & the Immovable Object.

Avoid at all cost, the use of any drug or drink or hubris that leads you to steal it and crash it to feel the rush of the airbag.

The eating schedule should be as follows: Wellfleet oysters, and thick slabs of sourdough garlic toast with salt and black pepper. Eat this two hours before departure....
The smoking of oily hashish is optional and in truth Not Recommended for use
beforedriving at speeds up to 150 mph in residential areas. The smoking of powerful hashish should be reserved until after yr. return from the drive, when nerve endings are crazy and raw

more from Hunter S Thompson

Heaven is a bit harder to figure....and there are some things that even a smart boy can't tell you for sure...But I can guess... or wonder...
or maybe just think like a gambler or a fool or some kind of an atavistic rock & roll lunatic and make it about 8:1 that Heaven will be a place where the swine will be sorted out at the gate and sent off like rats with huge welts and lumps and puncture wounds all over their bodies ...Down the long black chute where ugliness rolls over you every 10 or 16 minutes like waves of boiling asphalt and boiling scum, followed by sergeants and lawyers and crooked cops waving rule books; And where nobody laughs and everybody lies
and the days drag by like dead animals and the nights are full of whores and junkies clawing at your windows and tax men jamming writs under your door and the screams of the doomed coming up through the air shaft along with white cockroaches and red stringworms full of AIDS and bursts of foul gas with no sunrise and morning and streets full of preachers begging for money and fondling themselves with gangs of fat young boys trailing after them. Ah..But we were talking about Heaven...or trying to....but somehow we got
back into Hell.:fork_off:

I prefer Burrows for my W.U.I.

Edit: But I do like "Call on God, but row away from the rocks."

Get a little stronger stomach and read Bukowski's stuff. I don't even know if he is still alive.

edit: apparently he died in 94

Only so much time in the day for reading... none mostly except for snippets.

From what I've heard he was right up my alley few years back though... maybe someday.

Thumbs up *** ...good men die like dogs... ***

There's a quote I love that's most often mis-quoted by those "pros" in the Video business...it was finally "researched" by someone/something called "Emery" following Hunter's death...I have the "correct" version of the quote cut and taped (literally) right next to the 'D' drive on this computer...-

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"For the record, here's the real quote, bird-dogged by Emery, which can now be found in the Thompson collection Generation of Swine: Tales of Shame and Degradation in the '80s:
"The TV business is uglier than most things. It is normally perceived as some kind of cruel and shallow money trench through the heart of the journalism industry, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs, for no good reason." "
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(The guy may have been "fried" past Well-done, but even a room full of monkeys will, evenually, be able to pound out a sentence on a typewriter, if given enough time and bananas. Hunter managed to beat the monkeys on this one!)
