But the big news is a big new Johns Hopkins study published in The Lancet that suggests that the US misadventure in Iraq is responsible for setting off the killing of twice as many civilians as Saddam managed to polish off in 25 years.

A careful Johns Hopkins study has estimated that between 420,000 and 790,000 Iraqis have died as a result of war and political violence since the beginning of the US invasion in March, 2003.

Interesting conclusions are that we are wrong to focus so much on suicide car bombings. The real action is just shooting enemies down with bullets. Only 30 percent of the deaths have been caused by the US military, and that percentage has declined this year because of the sectarian war. Informed Comment

Assuming that data is true, then it's better for one man to kill 300,000-400,000 than many men to kill 600,000-700,000?

I'm skeptical that any of that information is even truthful.

Well I got something I suspect is truthful and that is that this hornet's nest has been well stirred and is not likely to calm down anytime soon.

Somewhere betweem 5 to 10 thousand years of "civilization" and Saddam is what they produced. And we think that blowing a bunch of stuff up, killing a lot of families' oldest son, and placing a bunch of well meaning but immature (for the most part) American youth, most of whom don't really want to be there and who are likely to take out their frustrations on the locals, into positions of authority with orders to do stuff like, "cm'ere you Ay-rab, Imo frisk you," is going to somehow magically produce, in a few years, a few hundred years of the sort of social evolution that led to Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin?!?

Dubya said it would work so I'm just sure it will.

So 600,000 are out of the way now. Unrealistic figure, I would say rather optomistic. What's that leave...5,999,400,000 to go. Sounds like we need to step up the pace a bit.
