Chevy compared to Ferrari

I have a severly computer illiterate friend that has problems turning a computer on and I told him F--- Winders get a Mac and end your problems that is what I did. He is a Ferrari guy like me and heads to comp USA and asked the sales person what the difference is and the Comp guy says "It's comparing a Chevrolet to a Ferrari". For once I totally agree with a Comp USA guy I can't figure out why a person that is mediocre with Winders does not get a Mac. Since I have been mac'd I have nothing but frustration with Windows it's clunky, Crashy and generally a POS.

With that said and prices dropping on Mac's why do people still buy Winders machines?

Why?

Runs extremely fast and internet pages never even load up...they just pop up as soon as you click it. And the crazy thing is that I only restart my comp once every 2-3 weeks before it starts to slow down.

They're like Hondas, many backwards compatible parts which in themselves are better than the OS which runs them. You can also customize, repair and fix them easily. (re. diesel owners )

Edit: The other bonus is that the manufacturers can put the latest components on the market faster than the big OEM's can ramp up their production with the custom cases and platforms. Plus there is a cost savings if you know what you're doing.

There are many UNIX/Linux variants run on them who can complain about that?

There you go. After 2-3 weeks it starts to slow down.

A mac never does that. It doesn't need to be shut down or restart to keep it from slowing down or crashing.

I know a guy who is using a mac as a server for a website, and hasn't shut it down for years.

Having switched to a mac I ask people that question all the time, and I usually get one of three answers.

One is that they have used a pc for so long and that they are afraid to change.

Another reason is that they believe the rumor that there is little software available for the mac.

A third is that they use one piece of software that won't run a mac.

Yes. Word was actually created for the mac initially and was converted for pc use.

You can buy Microsoft Office for the mac, and it contains the full suite of programs.

The fact that I can tear into the internals, swap all kinds of junk out two and fro and diagnose and repair items with the relative ease equivalent to working with an OM616 is enough to keep this man satisfied.

Parts are interchangeable, it is not a one-box concept, it is a box you can upgrade as many times as you want for as long as you have it. So long as you build it yourself, and make sure to do the "homework" before making any purchases.

I'm a PC guy. And I'm not just running Windoze.

My currant Compaq is a pos. When I do go computer shopping I will try out the Mac's and may switch over.

I just want something that isn't always broken or acting up. My currant computer is worse than an TR6!

Never go proprietary. I did once, and there was such a lack expandability, I opted for a new Gigabyte socket 478 mainboard. I finally had a BIOS, that was actually a dual system (in case of a bad flash), and I could tweak things such as the memory timings, and the FSB. With the proper 500W power supply unit of course, I can have a pretty nice videocard, although my mainboard is limited to an AGP (8X) and not PCI Express (16X).

My 478 may be outdated by today's standards, but I can tweak the performance of my computer up 25% (FSB OC'd) with slightly better ventilation and an extra fan with more efficient heatsink and the processor only hits 38C at full load.
