My newest addiction----------iPod

I know it is old tech and I didn't bother with it but to make it very short I love iPods. Listening to my go sleepy mix and a book = a dose of Xanax before bed. I am rigging the cars for the full set up and my 4 year old just got a shuffle for her B-day from a friend.

The Podcasts are also cool.

A little hint if you go to best buy (small caps intended) ask for the open items with no headphones; apparently they cannot sell used headphones so they deaply discount the ipods. Her shuffle was $30 and thats pretty darn cheap. For all you internet parents I have limited the volume on her unit to very low.

This week I finally swapped the original headphones from my 1st gen 5GB iPod for the new rubber sheathed ones Apple sells (which oddly is not what the new iPods come with) . . . wow, what a difference. I'm sure it's nothing like the Shure E3, but they do have a lot more bass than the old earbuds.

Yup! Love my iPod, have to admit it. I sometimes don't have time to bother with itunes/playlists all the time, it's a lot of tweaking, but I use my shuffle to run with. It's great - good sound and next to no weight.

I've got an iPod mini that I use mainly for travel. All my fav tunes wherever I go! (esp. The Clash..)

The headphones I use for running that I like are these - very crisp sound, good bass, and you can still hear the environment around you. Sennheiser PMX60.

I HIGHLY recomend sennheiser.

I use a pair of 280pro's daily. next will be the (expensive) upgrade to the hd-25.

I just received my first Ipod. I signed up with a bank, and a month later UPS delivered it to my door. It was completely free (2gb 2nd gen. nano)

Only thing I'd add Ted, is that they're relatively heavy compared to other similar headphones. But I take that as a good thing - perhaps a sign of quality build.

Either way, they sound great, IMHO!

I also love my ipod. I purchased a 30 GB one about two months ago.

A few tips for some of you:

1. if you really want high-quality sound, make sure that you convert your CDs at the highest possible rate. I didn't do that, and now have to "reconvert" over 39 days worth of music so it'll sound good enough for my home stereo.

2. Regarding headphones, I'm sure the Sennheiser PMX60 sound great and I'll probably end up buying a pair. But the earbuds also work well when you're using your ipod on the train or in an environment in which you don't want others to also listen to your music. So keep the earbuds for those listening times.

3. Buy a good quality protective cover as soon as possible. I waited, and now have a few scratches on the surface. Yes, it scratches quite easily!

They'd do fine - that's what I use them for as well. They fit snugly and don't jiggle around. It's just that compared to some others (Sony, JVC), these have some mass associated to them. But, like I said, probably a good thing!

Love mine. too!

My girl friend gave me an I Pod for my birthday this year and I'm nuts about it. I sit down in my Eames chair, plug "Poddy" into my ears, and open a good book, and I'm in heaven. It's the next best thing to being with her!

Rat Shack sells an attachment for the stock ear buds that makes them a much more palatable earphone. I think they're around $20 but frequently go on sale. They are a plastic channel with a rubber sheath at the end.

I have used the Rat Shack in-ear-phones (Koss makes them) with foam ends for years and I'm perfectly happy with them. They're no Grados or Sennheisers, but if I wanted portable unltra-hi fidelity I'd be using a CD player rather than an iPod anyway. To me, the appeal of the iPod is that it can be stuffed in a pocket, so I like the fact that I can do the same with my earphones.

One of my friends has a gizmo that he carries with him and can set the FM dial to a certain station and access the thousands of cds and mp3s that are loaded onto his hard drive at home. This seems a lot less cumberesome, ect.... than having the ipod hanging out of the dash. If you want, I will find out what it is called.

That mental image disturbs me.
