V12 560SEC with 418 hp built, next project 500CE

See pictures at www.mbcoupes.com and www.motorwerksgroup.com

This monster is finally done. This is Dr Satish Tummala's (Owner of the mbcoupes site and probably the acknowledged worldwide authority on the 560SEC)

He's a radiologist by trade but also apparently owns his own sales, service and collision repair shop, where he can indulge his avocation - souping up Mercedes coupes. He knows these cars to the last nut and bolt. I collaborated with him in putting together the "buyer's guide" for the 560SEC found on his website.

When he bought his black '89 SEC, he started out by with the basics, getting rid of the cats (not required in Mich.), Remus exhaust, headers, basic stuff.

Kicked around the idea of Mosselman turbos, but as the quest for more power evolved, he finally decided to get a full on AMG 6.0 liter done, about 6 years ago, (at AMG West) I got a ride and got to drive it the night he picked it up, and it was furious at tip in, just endless buckets of torque. Nice.

I raced him near the SF airport, and at 90 mph he simply walked away from me. PWNED.

That engine didn't work out for him, it grenaded later. His next project, detailed at length with pictures, on the website www.mbcoupes.com was to put a 1992 (from a wrecked 500SL) 119 engine into the car, the site gives a detailed explanation of how to do this job asw if it were done by the factory.

I guess the need for bigger, faster, better beats in some folks hearts so now the car has gotten a 600 V12 motor transplant. This transplant, is carefully done down to the stickers and decals, so as to make the car appear as it came from the factory like this. It is probably the only one in the world like it, probably the fastet 560SEC in the world too.

Apparently flared fenders and a new paint job are in the works too.

It's a great accomplishment from Satish. Yet again.

Jim, is that red and black V12 at mbcoupes.com Satash's? That thing looks bad! I love the way his car looks anyhow. The engine compartment on that thing is killer!

I'd love to meet him sometime. You guys have terrific-looking cars. One of these days I'll find one, too. Thanks for your post.

Oh nice! The next keeper 126 I'll buy will be in the coupe body.

I'd kind of surprised the M120 fit under the hood, its a big engine! Tight fit even for the W140!

You know AMG and Brabus have tuned said V12 to well over 500hp, there is room for improvement if he finds that 400hp isn't quite enough.

Yeah Tom that's his V12 motor, painted and powdercoated.

He REALLY knows those cars, from end to end, and inside out. A REAL nice guy, my (ex)wife and I had him over for dinner at our place, when he was there but Charo didn't like him because ALL he talked about was Mercedes Benz, nothing else. Everytime she tried to change the subject, he would change it back to Mercedes Benz. Great for me, awful for her.

During the last month, Satish has returned to the forums and his Mercedes projects with a vengeance, and he's building a 500CE coupe (the 2 door version of the W124 500E that ws never been built) Satish makes no bones about it, his enthusiasm is tuning, modification, and upgrades to the 560 SEC, and not so much as being an emergency room doctor for the car, but he does know all you could hope to, about their care and feeding, and theirr specs-what a good tuner ought to know first anyway

But he LOVES the 560SEC, I think more than any other car. You should get in touch with him, or with Jonathan inAtlanta (he was the guy who had the good luck to grab Jack Middlebrooks 300 HP black 560SEC coupe - read the story about that car and see the pictures of its transformation on the www.coupes.com website

His forum name is Jhodg5ck and he owns a shop in Atlanta, and owns 3 o4 4 560SEC coupes and really loves them.

SECRET: From what I have seen, some of the VERY BEST condition and kept up 500/560 SEC and MB diesel sedans are sold back and forth among owners who frequent the enthusiast internet forums, owners who know love and cherish the cars, and that would probably the best place to finally find one you would like. The trouble would only be, that the car would not be close to your home necessarily. Also, people on those forums constantly check ebay auto trader and craigslist, all the time, so check the forums, the good (and really bad) ones get prodded, poked, remarked, barked and
blue booked to within an inch of their life when one pops up for sale.

Jack Middlebrook's car, for example, came up for sale when Jack got married and moved to Montana, where he needed a 4wd SUV, so when he got ready to sell it in Florida, it was NEVER advertised. But the 560SEC enthusiasts all over the internet knew about the car. This is the Euro Conversion car that Satish did, and is featured on the www.mbcoupes.com site. Jonathan grabbed it when it came up - he knew what it was, no prepurchase inspection was needed on that one. It was carefully converted to a 300HP ece full euro model, with the best headers, exhaust, euro lights and wipers, and wheels.

If you get ahold of Satish and Jonathan and indicate a desire for a good SEC, chances are not only would they be willing and able to advise you what to watch for, but could likely provide you with a good lead when one comes up.
Those two guys I think are the 2 most connected guys to the 560SEC scene in the USA - they live and breathe those cars, from what I know

Keep looking, if you want one, you'll find one some day. There ARE good ones out there, and they DO change hands sometimes. And they are not that expensive for what you get

Satish has the best shop I've ever seen. What an amazing facility. Now add the autos that go thru there with the work being performed and it all makes for a perfect formula.

He now works on new and old Mercedes models now, it's a regular shop, as advertised on his website. His work is tops. He really knows what he's doing. I'd recommend him without any hesitation.

She just turned 90 today...90,000 miles that is.

Now *that's* dedication to the marque, and the W126 specifically...

I thought that vowing to own one one day after a ride in a 560 in 1989, then eventually "turning pro" working on German cars, and earning enough to buy a nice 126 with cash, was a sign of dedication...

Dr. Tummala is definitely serious about MBs!!
