Good problem to have - what is plural of Mercedes?

Until recently I owned only a single Mercedes. Now I own two. With that change I encountered some verbal stumbling when I was trying to refer to my two in the plural. “Mercedeses” just sounded silly, as did “Benzes” (although it seemed a step up from “Mercedeses”). “Mercedi” (long I) sounds kind of cool. “Benzi” (again, long I) sounds like a medicine for something pretty nasty. So I’m still stumbling over this one. What is the plural of Mercedes Benz?
Thanks.

You just say:"I have two Mercedes". Another example would be "I have three Mercedes". I am sure you can take it from here.

What models do you have? Do you do your own work?

...Mercedes Benz, but benzo's might work out alright.

Johnhef 10-27-2006 04:08 PM

anything with a s after it gets an apostrophe.

Mercedes'

ProV1 10-27-2006 04:10 PM

i say benzes

gmercoleza 10-27-2006 04:11 PM

The apostrophe is used only for contractions and possessives, never to denote a plural.

As Ed McMahon would say: "You sir are correct". I guess the true plural would be Mercedes Benzes. I have three Mercedes Benzes.

I agree with the man from Ann Arbor. But that will not be the case on Nov. 18!

John Doe 10-27-2006 10:14 PM

Mercedai.

Hatterasguy 10-27-2006 11:17 PM

You get used to it. Currantly I'm up to two. I think once I get out of school and a little money (and space!) my fleet may level out at three or so... they kind of collect.:D

Benzes is what all the older heads I know call them. Actually, it makes sense, as Mercedes was originally a specific model of the Benz.

You're close, having only forgotten the hyphen. It Mercedes-Benz, not Mercedes Benz.

From time to time, for fun, I salt in a small taste of of Ebonics.

And remember, nobodys perfect.

And you're close, having, as most do, incorrectly used the ellipsis.

A conspiracy of Mercedes'.

Larry Delor 10-28-2006 12:12 PM

So much closeness, and still, no Cigar.

A murder of Mercedes?

peragro 10-28-2006 07:39 PM

Mercedeses, in true gollum fashion.

ncof300d 10-28-2006 07:51 PM

I don't care what they are called. When people find out that I have three they think that I am wealthy. No......I just prefer these cars to much of the garbage that is out there. Besides, the years of these are 1999, 1985, and 1981. Hardly 'new'.

mespe 10-29-2006 09:45 PM

Ummmm it would be "I have 4 Mercedes cars" Unless of course you got an SUV or truck, the it should be I have a fleet of Mercedes.

Hatterasguy 10-29-2006 10:39 PM

Try this when people ask you what you drive, make is sound casual.

"I have a couple Mercedes."

Solves the problem nicely.:D

300EVIL 10-30-2006 10:40 AM

I usually say "Mercs".

Mercedi? That's a good one too.
