Age poll - for those who own a MB only

i've heard that the average age of a MB owner in the US is something like 64..????!!

i wanted to see if the crowd here is younger than that. please participate in the poll only if you own a MB.

sorry if this was done before, i'm new here. :)

John Doe 10-27-2006 06:04 PM

I think you can ask the mods to make this a real poll, which would tally the results for you.

Since you apparently a golfer, I'll respond to the query;) 34. Have owned 3 benzes (currently own one) and am looking for #4.

edit: the poll thingy didn't show up until after i typed this

I'm going to screw up the poll now. :)

I will vote although I own an Audi. sorry.

I used to have a couple of MBz.

kamil 10-27-2006 06:12 PM

I'm one of the guys in the 21-29 category. :)

TWeatherford 10-27-2006 06:19 PM

18 years old. Enjoying my first car, which is more car than my Dad has ever owned (he now wants one). Now I want to get a wagon for camping and long road trips. Oh well, can hardly afford insurance on this one.

Ara T. 10-27-2006 07:33 PM

19... learned how to drive on this 300D 4 years ago and the poor thing has put up with so much abuse and has needed very minor repairs.

PaulC 10-27-2006 07:58 PM

I mistakenly voted and forgot which age I selected. Whoops.

"Gee, it must the Rutgers education" :)

kamil 10-27-2006 08:02 PM

Holy crap....there are people that are over 60 years old on here? How did they learn to use the computer, let alone a forum? I bet they are lying. ;)

No wonder so many people get their panties in a bunch over my posts..

Hatterasguy 10-27-2006 09:45 PM

I have been a MB owner since I was 18, currantly 21. Not buying another brand anytime soon.

Unleashed 10-27-2006 10:02 PM

Just voted...I'm 57  AND just to clarify things, I was using a computer when you were a mere twinkle in your parents eyes. As for the forum, we called them bulletin boards back in the ancient '80s

That is probably the average the those who purchase new. This past summer I was at Shaver Imports. A coulpe was just picking up their 2007 S-Class. This couple was so elderly (I mean in the context of their ability to move) that I questioned if they should be per mitted to drive. They at least made the left turn out of Shaver Imports onto the very busy four lane road. Watching them make that manuver was a bit disturbing.

I have tried to look at other makes, but it is not working very well. Honda will likely have a good shot at me when they introduce their diesels in the US.

Is that really your cell phone number listed? I'm tempted to call it just to see who the hell you are.

Maybe I should start a thread along these lines: "Who wants to talk to Kamil over the phone" LOL

t walgamuth 10-29-2006 03:12 AM

it is fake too.

*** Just a few months away from a jump up ... ***

49 - First Benz I've owned. I don't know why I didn't do it sooner! :D

MB - fits my initials.

If I throw in the G (MGB), I've ONLY driven one of those ('69 - friend's)

A little story about that (MGB) little car - he and another friend were driving back from some local establishment near Hayward, WI. back in '83 ... he was zipping around on some back-road up there and...yep, you guessed it, he wrapped it around a tree ... both DIDN'T have their belts on (I'm not sure even if there were belts in that car anyways.) ... Officers at the scene said that both would have DEFINATELY been killed IF they hadn't been thrown clear of the car before it hit the tree. Both spent over 6 months each in the hospital (Pins, screws, plates, wires, the "whole" she-bang...), and about 1-1/2 years doing rehab. BTW, they found the trunk-lid about 2 weeks after the accident - a hunter heard a crash and turned around to see the lid about 4 feet from him. Nobody thought to check UP in the trees for all the parts. Never did see what was left of that thing...no one took pics.

Remember - Drive Safely - Nobody else does!

The big surprise that will likely come to you over the years is that you'll come to understand what was flickering through the brains of them dang old foggies when they were getting "their panties in a bunch."

I'm 55 goin' on 30. Was on my way to buy another Mustang Cobra when I spotted my first Benz. A white 1980 300CD. Since then I bought a 1985 300SD for my partner. Years later I moved up to a 1994 E320. Right now the E is history. My daily driver is a 1984 500 SEC. And our weekend warrior is our 2001 S430.

Indeed. But I can't say for certain that he will ever lose this behavior. If not, it will be his loss, not mine.

BenzDieselTuner 10-29-2006 02:58 PM

im 23...:behead: :fork_off:

Im 17, one of the younger forum members and MB owners.

Adam (aka rg2098 on this forum) Is 17 now also.

I think there are a couple here a year younger than us.

Definitely less than 10 (active that I know of anyway) <18 year old MB owners on this forum.:D

kamil 10-29-2006 03:56 PM

You guys remember you statistics classes? That distribution looks just like the T distribution. Kind of interesting but it makes sense....there aren't going to be that many old people because they're all dead and there aren't going to be many young people since they don't traditionally drive diesels.

Oh sure. But the fact that he thinks that flavor of "messing" is actually funny or does anything other than coat him with slime is telling.

What people find funny says a lot about them.

Bought my first benz about two months ago (79 240D) and then bought another car two weeks ago (80 300sd). I love the sound of a good running diesel. I'm 24 but going on 50...got three kids that make me feel really old........

That brings back memories of those funny modems, where you put the phone on a cradle to tranmit. At least we don't have those single color green or orange monitors anymore. Oh, and those dot matrix printers that made more noise than a cold 240D. :D

My 1st PC was an Apple II+ with 48K and two floppy drives. Bought it when I started grad school. 16 colors. Later I bought the 16k language card and also bought Fortran IV and Pascal. translated a couple of programs from a Univac 1140 (something) to the Mac for my research in grad school. It worked, too. Ran the program for 3-4 days before I'd get results. Change some parameters and run it again. Bet I could complete the analysis now in 10 - 15 minutes.

John Holmes III 10-29-2006 09:18 PM

Oh wow, the Apple II and the Commodore 64, people thought that was as good as it got at the time.:D I hated typing papers for school, because my teachers didn't allow white out.

Car stereos were state of the art if you had a Jensen or Craig headunit with 6 x 9 speakers in the back, maybe even a graphic equalizer. Of course, using home stereo speakers was also cool.

Botnst 10-29-2006 09:41 PM

Macrame and avocado-green, shag carpeting. Home decorating dreamland.

John Holmes III 10-29-2006 10:03 PM

My folks avocado green clothes dryer finally died a couple of years ago. They also used to have a Kennmore avocado green dishwasher, that rolled around on caster wheels and plugged into the sink. The "waste" just flew into the sink when it drained, so guess who got to clean the sink after every use? I remember it had a cool butcher block top, I also remember it was so loud you could hear it in the front yard. Sears: the place you want to be, yeah right.

A guy I knew in Michigan decided that his transportation of choice was a small bread delivery type of truck. Don't remember who made the radio, but the speakers were Radio Shack's infamous Mach I's (the big ones with 15" woofers).

I've seen those little delivery trucks, and they are pretty cool looking. I also remember those Mach I's, some friends of mine had them, and they used to play Led Zepplin over and over every night on them. Until the fellow upstairs from him came over one night and simply took the record off the turntable and calmly walked out. After a few seconds of stunned silence, my buddy laughed, and cranked up some Pink Floyd.
