Syc, my mom did.

2007 Rav4, picked it up tonight with 1, yes 1 mile on the odo. Directly shipped from the land of the rising sun, to the dealer.

Its a cool little truck, disc brakes all around, alloy wheels, nice interior. Toyota never changes much though, I swear under the hood isn't that much different than my 93 Camry was. 16 valve, 2 overhead cam 4 banger is still there, but with 50 more hp. They all seem to spec super light 5w20 or 0w20 oil! Honda and Toyota, better fuel mileage maybe? Comes with free life time oil changes from the dealer, and an 8 year 125k mile bumper to bumper warranty if my dad opts for it.

All in all a fine little SUV for what it costs, mom is super happy she hasn't had a new set of wheels for a long time.

Toyota makes a very solid product, but I'll stick to MB's thank you very much.

My mom's 2006 Mazda uses that 5W20 as well. I think its kind of odd but I guess improves gas mileage I've heard. How much I do not know.

Actualy its 2wd. Dad didn't want to pay for 4wd, he has a thing about paying $3k for an option that you really only need maybe twice a year at most. Since we live less than a mile from the water it never snows that much. 6in is a big deal, and thats nothing for any FWD car.

Toyota even puts good tires on from the factory! Yokohama's! Plus a full size spare!

Good friend of mine bought the V6 model and he loves it. 270 HP and still gets 28mpg on a trip. He says the overall length is 18 inches longer than the 06 model.

Well, now we know how long they expect that engine to last with 0w20 oil and proper oil changes at whatever miles they suggest: 125,001. Of course that's figuring a national average. Cars in cold climates will probably last a bit longer. I can't wait to see what that oil is like after 5000 miles in Phoenix traffic in July. And they decided to stress the engine a bit more and squeeze out another 50 hp. That should help it last longer. I actually like Toyotas (heck, we make 'em here in KY). But this foolishness of trying to squeeze a million hp and a million mpg out of an engine is crazy. Maybe if I lived north of the artic circle I would consider 20 weight oil.
Please ask your Dad to change the oil twice as often as the book calls for. Then the guy that buys the car from your Dad in 8 years/125k miles will actually get something for his money.
I am glad to see the disc brakes all round. Whole lot safer even if it does cost car companies maybe $5 more per car to do it. Can't believe I still see new cars on the road with drum brakes on the rear. Heck, my '76 MB has discs all round!
Sorry to be so down, but watching these oil weight games they play makes me crazy(er).

Actualy the book calls for changes every 3,500! I was surprised since most new cars are at least 7,500.

Honda and Toyota have been doing this Xw20 thing for at least the past 5-6 years and it seems to work for them. My old Camry had a steady diet of 8k-10k mile changes until I got it at 125k. I think its up to 160k now and still running along, the car will probably go the the junk yard with a decent running engine.

Toyota is very good at getting hp out of a little engine. Its a 2.4L 4 rated at about 170hp I think. Not sure of the exact number.

Congrats. Toyotas are excellent cars.... I have owned several as you know... 2 87 Camrys, 81 Cressida, 93 Camry, 84 Toyota PU and a 90 LS400 (Lexus). All were super.

Know what you mean about the 2wd as well. I am getting ready to buy a Toyota Tundra truck and was going to get 4wd, but here too- it snows very little and I never offroad, so 2wd is the better choice for me- not to mention lower insurance, better MPG, cheaper to maintain, etc.

I bought a 1998 Tacoma V-6 4x4 and it as been an excellent little truck..not a minutes worth of trouble. I have had it service regular and it still runs as well as the day I bought it....You cant beat them...

Mom's been driving it to work this week, it may roll over 100 miles before the weekend is over!

My dad has driven trucks forever and has had 2wd trucks as long as I can remember. You only really need it once maybe twice a year, it just isn't worth it. If we lived up in northern CT where it actualy snows, and went off roading it would be worth it. But for normal street use its a waste, imho.

Heck I have been down icy back trails trying to get to fishing spots in the MB's! At the end of the trail all you see is mud covered 4wd pick ups and a rwd MB, always get funny looks.
