I've used paypal a few times on small purchases from www.ebay.de Germany
I like the German vendors, they all are honest, able to communicate in english, pack VERY carefully, ship quickly and are pretty fair all the time

When I used paypal. the charges showed up on my next month's credit card bill. They are OK about the exchange rates fairly I think.

You probably will get lots of bogus spam paypail emails, though, saying your paypal account has been suspended, anything to get your personal information from you. If the email doesn't include your NAME, it's probably bogus, and ought to get to get reported to paypal. Just forward it to spoof@paypal.com and they'll acknowledge. The same scammers do it with bogus ebay messages too, just forward them to spoof@ebay.com

I use it all the time works good. I use it through a credit card, not a bank account. If you were going to use a bank account I'd set one up just for paypal.

eBay (Who owns PayPal) unfairly put me at fault for an item that was damaged during shipping. The buyer didn't pay for shipping insurance so I told him he was SOL because I sold the item as-is and USPS damaged it during shipping. As a result, I "owe" PP about $155 and they keep harassing me every day or so by calling my cell phone trying to get money that is not theirs.

I hated PP from the start and that just put me over the top. Now I only use USPS money orders and local pick-up.

If you DO start a Paypal account, DON'T answer ANY of the Emails you get that ask for your password. They are PHONIES and they will have a page that looks exactly like Paypal. Paypal will NEVER ask you to submit your password on any emails they send you.
Any time Paypal emails you, they will address you with your first and last name. The phonies do not.

I have used it for years now with no problems. I linked it to my lowest limit credit card though, just in case.

How did you pull the money out of your Paypal account quickly enough so that Paypal simply didn't just go and take it??

kbannister 10-28-2006 06:58 PM

Ditto the Hatterasguy. I have been using it for years. As the buyer, Paypal protects you 100% against fraud. I had to file a claim once due to a seller skipping out and got every cent back. Quick and safe.

I had bought some other items on eBay after I sold my item so the account balance was something like $3.50 when they judged me "at fault" for the broken item. The balance is now -$155 and they spam me automated collection calls every day or two.

Well, I must say, that is some fortuitous timing on your part..............;)

Good advise, I get e-mails a couple of times a month stating my account will be closed if I don't log on and update my info. I just forward them to spoof@paypal.com. Same scam targets ebay too.

Well I had plenty of time to use my money. It was about 3 weeks between auction end and final judgment/account overthrow.

When I try to login to PayPal I get the message:
"We regret to inform you that this account has been locked. Please contact our Account Review Department at appeal@paypal.com.

Message 3018"

PayPal is only good for auctions that require PayPal or are "immediate payment required" BIN items.

As a buyer, I prefer to use it. I've had some decent recourse on items that are not as advertised. One AH sends a set of SAE sockets, 3/4 drive, when the listing was for metric. He ignored every e-mail attempting to rectify it. Paypal didn't. They refunded my money and the shipping fees (which were more than the item cost).

Where would I be if I paid via money order?

If you used a money order from USPS and it was cashed, you could charge the seller with mail fraud.

How successful would that be?

He shipped the wrong item and refuses to correct the problem.

The post office is going to be successful in returning my funds? Somehow, I sincerely doubt this..........
