Best song ever thread!

If you had to pick one maybe two songs that are the best, which would they be?

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7801229154315033105&q=Metallica+Sandman&hl=en

For me its easy Sandman. Its the only song where the louder you hear it the better it sounds! My friends dad is building a "media" room at there house. There should be enough speakers there to blow the roof off his house and blow apart windows for at least a 1 mile radious!:D The speaker cables look like 0 guage wire! :D We are eager to pump some Metallica through this amazing system.

Other sweet songs!

"The Ride" by David Alan Coe...he picks up the ghost of Hank Williams hitchhiking. The opening of that song makes the hair on my arms stand on end every time.

Four out of these songs will make your head bop side to side...you'll probably be dancing in your chair. The Verve is for all you old guys, I still like the song though. These songs were made to be played LOUD!!

Tough subject, I can't even commit to a single artist I think.

I think the thing that makes those artists favourites is the quality of their body of work anyone can capture a moment once but years worth of moments? For groups my current leaning is to the Clash, but can't decide on Spanish Bombs or Clampdown. Solos provoked a good discussion last weekend with a friend, he taking Bowie and me Gabriel. Both spanning decades with consistant quality and influence. Current Gabriel fav is More Than This off his last one but Mercy Street still gives me shivers every time.

Yep, I'll take Elvis over 99% of the rap that they pass off as music.

ditto that, and I have never been able to stomach Elvis. I can appreciate the argument of the street poet being a big Lou Reed fan, and I have occaisionally heard some that can use that verse with a tempo that makes the lyric musical, but its too infrequent to be anything but accidental. The rock and roll animal is the 'Original Rapper' grab a copy of 'New York' listen to it front to back. That is what rap is trying to capture when they talk about music of the street.
