for about 35 years we didnt shift back and forth with the daylight savings thing here.

most folks i know seemed to think that was a good thing.

last year the governor decided daylight savings was a good idea and pushed it through.

so we switched over yesterday. today i feel punchy. woke up at the usual time but it was 440 instead of 540.

anybody else think it is a losing thing....switching back and forth?

I'm not a fan. I would rather lose another hour in the fall to allow for more light at night. I hate it when it gets dark at 4:30.

Changes in latitude, chages in latitude.

Farther south this daylight savings thing ain't so bad since the amplitude of the daylength is less. The farther north you go, the greater the differences between seasons, hence the twice-yeary whine from the north.

Hate it. I hate when the days get shorter this time of year, but this switching back and forth of the time is very disorienting. I STILL haven't gotten used to it.

This notion that it saves electricity? It's a load.

Perhaps it made sense when America was more rural -- though the DST notion was tried after World War I, and soundly rejected. But we're city people for the most part. Do our so-called leaders think we only turn on lights and A/C when the sun goes down? ("It's almost sunset, Martha. Fire up the floor lamp!") The increased sunlight pounding down on our homes means we use more power, not less! The people in Arizona didn't fall for this idea. They know they don't need more sunlight.

The way to do it, if you had to, would be to do it in winter. That way you'd have more light in the afternoon, and even a little bit of sun in January would help with the heating. But noooo --!

Let's not forget that if we do away with daylight saving time, we'll be on standard time (winter time) the whole year. Not that it would be so bad, but I for one like a few months when I can come home from work during daylight hours.

Ben Franklin received such a jolt when he flew a kite in an electrical storm that he started talking in maxims such as "A penny saved is a penny earned." Eventually he became so unstable that they had to give him the job of running the US Postal Service.

Here is AZ we don't go on daylight saving. We don't need another hour of daylight when the temperature is 110. We'd rather have the hour of daylight in the morning when it's only 95.

We changed over this weekend but somebody forgot to tell our dog to change her clock. She got up at 4 am the last two mornings ready to start the day (she typically starts her day around 5 am).

My problem is that I am ready to go to bed (and sleep) and it is only 7:52 pm.

Hey there Tom. Thanks for posting that.... I did not know that Indiana had finally decided to change. How did most folks like the additional light in the evening hours?

I think that other than Indiana, that parts of AZ (in the Navajo nations) that they stay on standard times), as well as the adjacent areas of CO, UT and NM- near the 4-corners region.....
