Since we've brought up guns lately....

There's a new cell phone gun circulating throughout Europe.

Interersting article about the rules of engagement for PO when a suspect reaches for their cell phone.

Dial 911

It's not all that new.

I don't know about other states, but guns that look like telephone handsets are illegal for private citizens to own in Illinois. Also illegal (but legal in other states) are machineguns and silencers (as defined by BATFE).

I haven't heard them being around the states yet. Could be wrong.

I was just trying to point out how difficult it makes it for cops that have to deal with that issue. Whether here or in Europe.

There are a number of states where class III(i htink) firearms are legal. You would have to go thru some paperwork, but it's not all that difficult.

What's more, something like the cell-phone gun is classified as AOW (any other weapon) by the BATFE. Machineguns and silencers have a $200 transfer or making tax, whereas the tax for an AOW is only $5. Note that Illinois doesn't prohibit AOW's in general, but specifically bans those that look like telephone handsets.

I have a gun classified by BATFE as AOW that I registered with them years ago. Only stipulation is that I have to get their permission to transport it across a state line. If I sell it, there is a special form and the buyer has to follow the same rules. Really not a big deal.

That cell phone gun is a whole different story though. Any gun disguised as a common every day non-lethal item could be a problem, not only for the cops, but for you and me too.

Too bad they can't be fired remotely by the other people the cell phone/gun user is annoying.

Some guy on the radio here used to have people hold the phone up to their forehead when they irked him. Then he would play the sound effect of a gun firing. Pretty funny. I think about that often when people come around me yakking on their phones loudly.

Wow that's the modern day German belt buckle gun.

I wouldn't willingly fire that thing with my fingers that close to the muzzle.

And good luck reloading..... but I guess that's what the antenna is for.
