George Allen

At an Allen campaign stop this morning, a blogger named Mike Stark asked Allen why he spit on his first wife. (I have no idea whether that charge is true.) Chaos ensued. Check out the video on this website: http://www.nbc29.com/Global/story.asp?S=5613839

I love how one of the guys manhandling Stark has a great big "Allen" button pointed right at the camera as he drags the guy away.

George is having a rough campaign this time around. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

lol...that's par for the course in Canadian politics. Our last Prime Minister took care of a heckler personally - put him in a choke hold, since dubbed the 'Shawinigan handshake'.

I actually met Chretien skiing on a quiet Friday afternoon, in a Québec ski resort. We were the only two people in the small chalet at the bottom of the ski hill, other than his RCMP guards. Not that he apparently needs them...

"Listein to me, dere, you small man, I tell you twice esti, get off my face before I doing someting crazee, uh?"

What kind of button would you expect the guy to be wearing, and what would it matter? If you watched the whole video, the commentator said Allen was there discussing the War, economy and global warming with Liddy Dole, and this ******* was heclking him.

Webb is finally up today for the first time it looks like, but still within the margin of error. Webb has a hell of a resume, so why does he need to play on media gaffes to win?

I'll say it again--I don't want him to be President, but he has been a nice guy the times I have met him.

There's nothing wrong with an Allen supporter wearing an Allen button, but I'm guessing the Senator would prefer to not have his campaign button be so prominent in the middle of such an ugly piece of video. It's just another small piece of bad luck for George.

You've met Allen, so I defer to your judgment on whether he's a nice guy. I was going on his reputation for being a smug bully, which is how he looks in that maccaca video clip.

I'm not sure that Webb is using "media gaffes". Did the Webb campaign have anything to do with this guy? There are plenty of Allen haters in Virginia, so I don't think we can assume that the campaign had anything to do with it.

I imagine the heckler is an a**hole, but wtf were those people thinking when they dragged him out of there? How could that be (a) justified or (b) good PR?

The macaca was on Webb's payroll. Everybody is doing it so that they can put video on youtube---there was an article about the practic in the WSJ a few weeks back.

I think the guy deserved to get booted. He came to an Allen rally intentionally to start trouble, and brought up nothing to do with the issues or campaign. Have you ever been somewhere where there has been a heckler? If you let them go, they just keep it up.

That's true, but couldn't Allen have just ducked through some door leaving the guy yelling like an idiot? Or maybe some pre-planning could have avoided the confrontation. I don't know what I would have done, but the anti-Allen forces are going to get some mileage out of that video. I'm guessing he had some sharp words for his campaign people after they got away from the media.

As for macacca being on Webb's payroll, so what? Allen has people doing the same thing. There's nothing wrong with it. Macacca is just a college kid committed to a political cause. Based on everything I've heard, he was never disrespectful to Allen. Why did Allen single him out for ridicule? It's not the crime of the century, but I don't think it's right for a U.S. Senator to demean a young person who shows that much interest in the political process.

Probably paid $3-5K to rent the ballroom--to leave wouldn't have been cost effective and would have been accompanied by: "Heckler Stumps Allen With Wife Beater Question and Allen Sneaks Out Back Door to Avoid Issue". Pat downs don't detect hecklers in the planning department.

Hecklers are best handled by getting the crowd to laugh at them. Parliamentary leaders in Britain have made it an art form. I've seen some city council presidents here is the states who are rather good at it, too.

Given this is a guy who has bungled at least three times on video this year, an advisor that told him to do this would likely have been taken out and shot behind the Omni.

If Allen loses this election that guy will probably go around calling himself macacca. He's probably already using it as a pickup line, don't you think?
