[Looking for they grey humor in that comment]

Was it Ellis that said there is no such thing as a joke?

Did anyone see GWB's interview on Fox last night? Now that's who was Kerry was referring too. A President should be able to speak elequently and with intelligence, not like a baffoon and an Idiot. How embassasing that was as a reflection upon the American public.

Those who voted for Bush are clearly not smart enough to understand who the comment was directed at. The irony? They proved it by using this sound-bite. Pretty funny really. But it doesn't cease to surprise me how stupid some people are.

Talk about grasping for straws, anything, something
To go balistic over the rantings of a has-been like this just boggles the mind, there was less bruhaha from the Reps when Chavez called Bush Satan

The strain of national censure is already taking its toll on our esteemed Senator:

Neither side is saying that statement is funny. The GOP is saying, implausibly, that it shows contempt for the troops. Kerry says that it was a garbled attempt at a joke but that it left out the original punchline. So, why would you expect to find humor in it?

I disagree. It's not stupid at all for the GOP to use this sound bite. It will probably get votes. So, the GOP is being dishonest, but not stupid.

Because many here have often said that Soldiers, Sailors, Marines are uneducated poor folks when it is not the truth. MTI posted an article awhile ago that proved my point. Most new enlistees are middle to upper middle class whites and college bound.

Some people have balls and some don't.

You make a legit point, although I thought the claim was that the military exploits the poor because they have no other opportunities. I thought the argument focused on economic status, not lack of education. On the other hand, those two things - poverty and lack of education - go hand in hand. So, you have a point. You also make a point that it will be a good thing if this unfortunate event causes the public to understand that economic opportunity is only one reason for people to enter the military. That is definitely a good thing.

But that does not justify distorting Kerry's position. Do you believe that Kerry intended to disparage the troops? Factually, doesn't his explanation of this gaffe make more sense?

Nothing but a lot of hot wind from both sides - the whole flap is nothing but utter BS.

Bottom line - On Nov 8th, our guys will still be fighting and dying in Iraq, and all both sides want to do is play "he said, she said".

So now the Republicans are talking about this instead of the economy and the other things they'd hoped to put in the spotlight in the final week before the election. Is that really a winning strategy? Seems to me that anything that keeps Iraq in the news is probably good for the Democrats. People hear "Iraq," and the rest is details.

Washington – Senator John Kerry issued the following statement in response to White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, assorted right wing nut-jobs, and right wing talk show hosts desperately distorting Kerry’s comments about President Bush to divert attention from their disastrous record:

“If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they're crazy. This is the classic G.O.P. playbook. I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did.

I’m not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium, or doughy Rush Limbaugh, who no doubt today will take a break from belittling Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s disease to start lying about me just as they have lied about Iraq. It disgusts me that these Republican hacks, who have never worn the uniform of our country lie and distort so blatantly and carelessly about those who have.

The people who owe our troops an apology are George W. Bush and Dick Cheney who misled America into war and have given us a Katrina foreign policy that has betrayed our ideals, killed and maimed our soldiers, and widened the terrorist threat instead of defeating it. These Republicans are afraid to debate veterans who live and breathe the concerns of our troops, not the empty slogans of an Administration that sent our brave troops to war without body armor.

Bottom line, these Republicans want to debate straw men because they’re afraid to debate real men. And this time it won’t work because we’re going to stay in their face with the truth and deny them even a sliver of light for their distortions. No Democrat will be bullied by an administration that has a cut and run policy in Afghanistan and a stand still and lose strategy in Iraq.”
If Kerry had demonstrated the balls necessary to deliver this kind of message a couple of years ago, he'd probably be president today.

So the Democrats can harp about Foley for weeks, go on about Cheney's hunting accident for months, piss and moan about Abu-Grahib for a year, Republicans have had 2 days with this " bad joke " and we are the bad guys.
