Lance does it

Lance did it. He ran the NY marathon in 2:59:36. Freaking amazing! It looks like around 3 hours is the target for elite athletes who use running as crosstraining.

Never knew he ran marathons. He's a frickin' cardio machine.

He just took it up so as to not become idle, from what I've read.

Said it was the hardest thing he ever did. Course, his bod is probably better suited to cycling (well, duh) so a marathon would feel more demanding than the tour (I'm guessing).

The wear on your body from running is much greater than from cycling. Lance said something in Runner's World magazine about not wanting to become an old retired overweight athlete. (referring to Greg Lemond of course) :)

Lance was a very good teenage triathlete around Dallas before focusing on the bike. So running isn't completely new to him. When he was ~17 he almost beat Dave Scott, the multiple iron-man winner, in our local international distance race. I was there, uh, somewhat back in the pack...

Watched the race on 4th ave in Brooklyn. Lance was easy to pick out as he was the only runner with a motorcycle-riding camera crew in front of him.

I hope they use electic motorcycles. I can remember when riding my bike to work in Seattle, whenever I'd spot a car idling at the curb, I'd take a deep breath and hold it til I got well past. Taking a deep gulp of exhaust when you really need the oxygen is a drag.

And to have several motorcycles in front of you for much of a marathon, holy $h!t in the air, batman.

Hey, he rode the Tour how many times? Those cameramen ride m/c's. Still, you're right. You can sure tell a difference running near highly traveled roads opposed to in the country!
