Eclipse of Saturn, maybe? Looks too beautifull to be real. What happened to the rings on the lower-left limb of Saturn?

Looks like light is hitting the surface of the planet from two sides to me. So I figure it's doctored.

Obviously it really is a photo. The question is whether or not its been doctored. I don't know.

Amazing! Thanks for posting that image and link. I'm sending it to everybody in my family. They're all NASA junkies.

B

PS A bit of balm for those of us who said it looked fake. The data from which the image was constructed was most likely a multispectral scanner. Constructing an image from scanner data requires some elements of artistry. The operator decides which channels to use and which filters to use on those channels and which RGB gun to assign the channels to.

Your welcome, I got this image from my dad, he's a NASA/space junkie too.
