Great ideas but I don't think any of this will make her more talkative.

I'm fairly romantic and extravagant with her.

She's always been like this as I said. It just bothers me more now.

WTF.............

There are few things that can compare with a voluptuous figure and sonorous voice reciting Coleridge,Racine,Shakespeare,Keats and a host of others while I stroke her ample,ivory-toned thighs and revel in sensory and sensual delights, after all, sex is great but so are other stimulations of the mind and emotions.
I've been to Racine. Nothing much for recitation.

An added bonus. That's a good thing, right?

My wife is naturally a very quite, soft spoken woman.

I love her to death but am starting to get irritated when sh goes mute.

Maybe it's me but it's bothering me more and more as I get older.

When she's around others, she's a chatterbox, when it's her and I she is a lot more quiet.

Usually, I am the one that starts most conversations, but sometimes I'm off my game a little bit and am reserved.

That's when I notice her lack of conversation skills more.

She's not just that way around me, the kids as well.

She actually talks more on the phone more than in person.

Besides working apart, we are always together and have the same friends, which could be part of the reason, as they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Is this why you changed your avatar?

My wife ( of 35 years) is displaying similar behavior. She will talk my ear off on the phone, but rarely has anything to say in person. Lately, I have begun to gently interupt her on the phone, and ask if this is something that could wait until i was home, and we could talk over the diner table. She is usually receptive to the idea.

if she is not depressed, then i would just try not to be irritated. lots of guys probably have the opposite problem and would kill to have yours.

my wife does battle depression. she takes meds for it and most of the time she is fine, but from time to time if life is too stressful she clams up and gets weepy (more than usual) and then i worry.

but when she is not depressed, i cannot complain. she is pretty ideal. in most every way.

hit the nail on the head here too.

I agree. You are 41 yrs old. I don't konw how long you have been married. But neither you or your wife are the same persons you each were on your wedding day. Change is inevitable.

Az is correct. You have changed. Apparently more than your wife, as you say she has always been reserved, etc. I suggest a vacation (or a long getaway weekend) alone. Get in a setting where you have to converse. See what happens.

Change won't stop. It continues. Partners adapt and adjust.. or part ways. My ex and I changed (aka drifted apart) and after 17 years, were so different than the couple who married, well, the rest is history. But we didn't work at making the marraige be successful. And it didn't happen by itself. (surprise surprise!).

Anyway, I think you should be talking to your wife about your concerns, not us.
Good luck.
