oops i missed it.

i traveled to maranello in 2002, but it was over the christmas break and the factory was shut down. i did see the old part that you see in all the pictures from the fifties, the test track, which is easily seen in its entirety from a rail overpass and the flat black buck of the enzo, in disguise, but obviously the next supercar from its sound.

the area around the factory reminded me of our midwest. it had a lot of industry, including brick factories and agriculture. that part of italy is historically known for its metal working. before cars it was armour and swords.

it was inspiring.

also there is the ferrari museum, which is very nice. it is not huge but has a very nice mixed assortment of cars. interestingly it has no ropes around the cars. you can get as close as you like....but they tell you on the way in that if you touch anything you will have to leave.

there are also a bunch of restoration shops for old ferraris around that area. i visited a few of them while i was there.

i spent the day there after driving out from bologna on a road that is laid over a roman road. my wife mother and daughters spent the day shopping in bologna.

i hope to get back sometime when the factory is open for a visit.
