And George Allen had the character to concede gracefully, rather than put the commonwealth of Virginia into the turmoil of a drawn-out recount with a team of lawyers looking on. He's no Al Gore, thank God.

Gosh, those Republicans are just the greatest guys ever. No dirty campaign tricks, no personal attacks. The GOP just pitches it right down the middle.

Yes, imagine that . . . despite all the news reports of state troopers stopping car loads of WASP voters in their M-Class SUVs . . . checking for outstanding warrants . . . yeah, it's just like the 2000 election . . .

The Repos have been trounced and the Demos.

I hope the Repos get their bribe money back from Diebold.

They would never get caught doing anything like that.

Or...

Would you encourage your kids to accept a ride home after a party from either Teddy or Bill?

They didn't have a choice. Even if they had a hissy-fit, America would not have sided with them. They got a clear message: " We are sick of your culture of corruption, your spending, your war, your everything......GET THE HELL OUT!!!" Who exactly WOULDthey have cried to?

Clearly there is a large constituency, though still a minority, that supports staying in those places where our military has spilled blood. The Democrat have a sort of cult of personality thing in which they personalize the anti-WOT on an individual. It is easier to despise an individual than a faceless bureaucracy. They focused on Rumsfeld. It took years of continuous "education" to get Rumsfeld a known entity. At the height of that campaign the retired generals who lost in the Pentagon Campaign (for which secret medals will be issued) were trotted-out. That was a clincher for many folks who weave in and out of their dream-state. With Rumsfeld gone the argument concerning his influence on military events is moot.

If they savage Bush & Cheney (probably the best course at this point) the new guy in DoD will get a pass. I figure he has about a year after the new Congress is sworn in before his teflon wears thin.

What does that have to with your claim that the GOP showed "dignity"? I suspect that an objective study would find that the GOP was dirtier than the Democrats this time around. I could be wrong about that and it is beside the point anyway.

Allen did a good job conceding, but his campaign was anything but dignified. We all know about his big screw-ups, but my favorite was how he tried to use Webb's novel about Vietnam to make him look like a perv. If that charge had any validity, then someone should tell the Marine Corps because Webb's book is on the Corps' list of recommended reading for professional development.

I never claimed anything. I was responding to you when you said:

My point is that they both do pull dirty tricks and both have their share of stupid acts. All we have done in this election is to change the name of the store, so to speak. Still will be Business as Usual. Just like sex, you are still going to get screwed. Yesterday it was in the missionary position and today it is doggie style. No, you will not get a reach around either.

Actually, that was one contest where a recount would have been justified. 7,000+ votes out of a total of 2+ million cast is a pretty damn small margin. Considering that the balance of power in the Senate was at stake, I think he shouldn't have conceded so quickly.

I would not have faulted Allen for demanding a recount. Candidates in close races owe a duty to their supporters to consider demanding a recount. Allen might have been privy to information indicating that a recount would be futile.

Ever notice how nobody talks about dignity unless they are on the dirty end of the stick.
