Do you get these emails from "eBay" also?

Every once in awhile I will get an email from "eBay" supposedly. It is an email from a prospective buyer asking me about some item that I have for auction, YET I am not auctioning anything.

It looks like an email from a buyer but sent thru eBay the way eBay does it. It looks authentic and even has the button to click on that sez "respond now".

I am very leery of these and NEVER respond back. I just delete them.

Does everyone get the same crap sent to them?

Just wondering....

yep - I got one yesterday and actually signed onto it to see what was up. It came looking like something I had bid on where there was a dispute. Immediately after getting into it and seeing it was a hoax I went into ebay and changed my password. There is an address somewhere on ebay where you can forward these on to.

I got one yesterday that said "I want my item back!" regarding a Honda motorcycle. When I entered that item number in ebay, it didn't exist.

If I don't recognize/understand the email immediately, it's probably a scam.

yep i get em too.they usually say from "ebay inc."this right there is your sign .also if it does list an item number check it out 99.99% of the time it will not exist.and i'll agree with engatwork if you do open one by mistake quick change your password.thing to remember is if you have bid on an item or not.i got one about 3 weeks ago saying i still had not paid for an item.problem was i hadn't bid on anything in about 6 months so i figured it was bogus to begin with.

these happen a lot. I signed up for my username on ebay with a yahoo account. In all my ads, I give a gmail account. You would not believe how many emails I get, in my gmail account, from "ebay." I know they'll send me anything important to the address I gave them, and anything in my other account is fake. Oh, and gmail does an excellent job of sending all of these fake emails straight to spam.

If you think the USPS can lose things, go ahead, join the Navy. The folks at the USPS are amateurs! You could get yourself really lost!

The term is "phising". Usually titled with some startling message designed to get you curious enough to do some research on the "subject".

The perps are getting better at it, but most amateurs can't disguise the url hiding behind the authentic-looking logos and stuff.

Mouse over to the links and such, but DON"T CLICK! Others will lead you to a legitimate-looking site and ask for username and password.

Remember that NO legitimate site will EVER ask for that information...either via e-mail or by phone!

I get ebay and paypal "phish" e-mails almost weekly.
