bugjam 2006
went to bugjam 2006 today, it was awesome. for those here that own pre 80's vw's you have to go to this show. i wish i had a camera with me but i didnt.
loads of nice beetles, buses, ghias, two count em two fridolins. the swap meet area was kick ass. i wish i had brought more money, loads of vintage luggage, coolers, rare accesories, roof racks(which i took notes on of how they were contructed) pans etc. one guy had a pin from the corner stone ceremony when production of the type 1(beetle) began, the fuehr himself was there and the pin about the size of a silver dollar was going for 500$. loads of EMPI crapola. one stand was Wenol metal polish, im going to order some and see how it does on my chrome(doesnt work on anodized alum) KCW(kustom coach werks) , Foreign Policy, and Hoodride where at bug jam... FP brought a nice early ghia . it was a texas brown with air ride. it was sittin on the pan while parked, plus they brought a chop top body dropped zwitter. drool droool im so going again next year and will have a vw to enter i wish we(mercedes owners) could have a show as big and grand as bug jam. people from all over the south came to this show and the hodge podge of hardcore people from all over the country. |
i didnt have a camera with me( i wish i did..) but someone at the other forum(hoodride.com) is bound to put pics up of stuff i saw.

Well, I've got a friend who is still looking for pop-out rear side windows for her SB. If ya know of any suppliers, I'd love to have their names and numbers.

for what year super? does she know about www.thesamba.com?
|
I emailed the link to her, thanks. I think it is a '73 or '75. been away from aircooled too long. Did a long stint with water cooled VWs then found MB. Talking with my kids about racing an A1 rabbit.

great thread don.
but just remember when admiring icons try to get them right. a beatle is either john paul george or ringo.... and they sang songs like lucy in the sky with diamonds or strawberry fields. a beetle was made by volkswagen. both are icons. both worth admiring. tom w (an old fart who survived both crazes) (come to think of it i probably listened to the beatles while driving a beetle more than once... on a mono am radio) |

here this link has tons of pics form the show http://public.fotki.com/doink/volkswagens/bulli-brigadehotelbugjam/ my fav car at the show http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...Jam06_0058.jpg |
From my pseudo-vast knowledge of the air-cooled veedub days, I believe the pop-out windows were only offered with the standard Beetles, not the Super.
Still, the Super only differs from the standards of those years from the dashboard forward (i.e. curved windshield and MacPherson struts vs. link beam front-end). Prior to 73, the SB windshields were flat. The pop-outs are probably offered for the 68' and earlier models, but you may still get them to fit. Also look at http://www.westcoastmetric.com/ Great place for hard to find pieces. This thread is giving me the itch to restore mine back to its former show car glory...alas, it has degraded to faded velour seats and dulled paint from disuse. Some pics from about six years ago, the year prior to mothballing the poor thing... Wheels are Enkeis...back when no one made 15" rims in a 4-bolt pattern... http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ug_profile.gif Engine is a 1641cc with 34 PICT Webers. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...bug_engine.gif |

Speed Parts and everything else I think you can convert anything into pop outs with the hardware. Not into SB's so just have her call WolfsburgWest - they'll have the quick answer. |
ive always wanted a beetle since i was young, just as a diesel benz... (but that came in after my want for a beetle)... im going to get one.. maybe this summer.. i dont care what color it is as long as the rust isnt deadly and it runs and isnt a fatty(i.e. 67+)

check out this Ghia that showed up .. i kind of know the owner from the other forum (hoodride) http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...Picture044.jpg http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...Picture043.jpg and notice the W116 ^_^ |
i suggest checking out hoodride.com 's forums... a roll job is pretty nice if done right.. and who cares about rust.. that ghia, i need to find the pics of the interior.. lets just say the pedal assembly is held in by a bungie cord and the steering column is tacked to a metal fence post tacked to the sides of interior body.. and he drove it from NC

I don't mind ugly cars with primer paint jobs and whatnot, but there's a point beyond which the car is just unsafe and shouldn't be on the street. Aircooled VW's are slick, especially Type II microbus and pickup's, but good grief, talk about rust...my dad had a '68 Squareback that he drove into the ground, wish I had it now.

i thought the super beetles had the fully independant rear suspension and the front strut suspension/
