Erratic A/C

This is concerning the A/C on my Xterra.

When I turn the A/C on, it doesn't blow cold. After a while (2 minutes) it starts getting cold. Then the temperature of the air out of the vent starts to fluctuate - it gets nice and cold as it should be and a couple of minutes later, the temp of air out the vent goes up then back down again.

Just wondering what is going on - is the system just low on freon or is the compressor not able to keep up or is the belt slipping?

Thanks.

Probably a restricted expansion valve. The only way to know for sure is hook gauges up to the system and monitor the pressures. That will tell you if its a freon issue or an expansion valve issue.

You need to find the sample blower motor and see that it is running. It is in varying locations thoughout the 124 series, but start looking by pulling the glove box and looking forward and to the right.

This little fan should be turning any time that the ignition switch is in the on position. If it is not turning, the CCU is not getting a reliable temperature reading and will act as you describe.

Good luck,

Larry - the A/C problem was on my Xterra - Just got it fixed. The thermister went bad on it. Replaced and so far so good.
