Glass Flat Cooktop Repair

My glass cooktop got chipped from a dropped spicejar. A new top costs as much as a complete new cooktop (and they ain't cheap)! Has anyone tried to repair one? I was thinking along the line of using that epoxy stuff used to repair chips in auto glass.

When I bought my house it had a broken glass (?) cooktop stove. Like you, I found the replacement part outrageously priced. I found a used glass cooktop stove for peanuts and swapped tops. But I should have really done the smart thing and thrown the whole thing out. I couldn't stand cooking on it and eventually threw it away and got a 1920's gas stove which is superior.

when we bought ours from sears we got a 4 yr guarantee on the top.they called it something like the total buffoon guarantee.that no matter what we did to break it they would replace it.they said they had one guy that was standing on his to paint the ceiling and it broke, and they replaced it.i kindof like it but then other times i hate it.some stains are hell to get off of it.

I hated my glass top, took forever to heat up. I was remodeling at the time so I ran gas to the kitchen and got me a Hotpoint gas stove. I love it, other than the fact it has no low broil. I sold the glass top to a friend. His wife loves it for the ease of cleaning, he hates it for the same reason I got rid of it.

I broke even on the deal. You can spend thousands on a gas stove!

These are high on the theft list in new home construction sites here in TX, so most builders don't install the elements until closing!

For really stubborn stains, automotive rubbing compound and a power buffer does wonders! Looks almost new when done!
