Chip Buttys'

I was recently exposed to these on another forum...

I hear their popular across the "pond" but I've NEVER seen one in person (hell, I just heard about it last week)

Oh bloody.....

Speaking of wife’s looking over your shoulder while on OD.....

DJs clear across the room and out of nowhere I hear her scream: “Chip Buttys !! There’s a post from the mother land !!” (She’s from the UK, for those that haven’t heard.)
Upon seeing the post it was: “Oh bloody hell. It’s just a flip’n link to a ditty on‘em.”
Ya got her all excited then jerked the rug, Monomer.

As for your post Hat - it was something about kiss’n her bum...

(I have to agree though, we do have some off dishes here now and again.)

Ahh Chip Buttys you say... mmm im getting hungry here thinking about one.

Very tasty snack, but has to be made with real 'chippers chips' (chipper being an establishment whose purpose is to sell mainly fried foods, fish, chips (fries to you guys), batter sausages, burgers, onion rings, etc) God im hungry now
Another treat to try if any of you guys make it to Ireland/UK is Curry Chips.
Usually served in a tin foil tray, a portion of chips is smothered in curry sauce, plastic fork provided. Goes down very well on the way home after a few pints, the trick is to get home without having spilled any of the sauce on your clothing as you multitask (walk & eat). The curry chip is not an economical choice, you are charged more, but usually receive a smaller portion of chips than in a regular bag o' chips.
Im off to get some now!!!

Now, what type of restaurnt am I looking for?

If I open the yellow pages, what would it be listed under? I have to try one of these. The other forum (www.djforums.com's OT forum) had a contest including them - The people over there are crazy about them.

I would think a fish N chips shop but they must be few and far between in the States except for Long John Silvers and Arthur Treachers but they are both chains. I used to frequent a pub that had a vendor that made "British Food" for them. The food making venture was a mom and pop setup. They had the best Scotch eggs.

Am I the only US forum member who routinely makes Chip Butty's? I didn't know that is what they were called but I keep a saucepan in the frig filled with lard for cooking chips and I always have some white bread on hand to make the sandwich. Just salt, pepper and malt vinegar for me. I'll probably make one for lunch today.
Do other people regularly cook fresh chips at home?

In Denver, the definitive British chip shop is Yorkshire Fish and Chips on Pecos about 72nd.

I make fries and chips all the time at home, but putting them on a sandwich is like having rice topped with mashed potatoes (to me). In Pittsburg they put fries on your hamburger at some places and I can take that or leave it. My favorite fries or chips are sweet potato served with sour cream and hungarian paprika.

I've found that my non-contact thermometer has improved my french fries. Cook in 325 degree oil until the french fries just begin to float. Remove the fries, heat oil to 360 degrees and return fries until they brown.

Thats how I do it as well, and will add that I always drain them on a metal rack and not on paper towels.

If you have ever seen, or worse yet tasted, British food you will realize that the chip butty is just about the apex of their cuisine.

That was a cold shot. (Not going to contest it though.:) )

My wife has been known to drag us all in to Yorkshires F&C when in the Denver area. Also the one in Oakland. I’m thinking she’ll probably be heading up that way this weekend. Her buddy Julia Sawalha is heading in for the weekend. When they’re together, it’s best for me if they just eat out together. I can only handle so much of their cuisine. Or the two of them together for that matter.

For those wondering what all this great food looks like, here ya go. No Chip Butty pic, but a Fish Butty and a Chip Butty with Fish. All Buttys are best on Warburton’s Bread by the way.
