how long to convene the grand jury?

Police fire 50 rounds, kill groom on day of wedding
POSTED: 9:52 p.m. EST, November 25, 2006

NEW YORK (AP) -- Police fired 50 rounds Saturday at a car of unarmed men leaving a bachelor party at a strip club, killing the groom on his wedding day in a shooting that drew a furious outcry from family members and community leaders.

...

A grand jury was investigating the incident. Kelly said none of the five officers, who had a combined 49 years of force experience, had previously discharged their weapons in the line of duty. He has not been able to interview the officers because the district attorney must first complete an investigation, he said.

The NYC grand jury is convened on the Saturday after Thanksgivng?

Don't forget this tidbit:

The spray of bullets hit the car 21 times, after the vehicle rammed into an undercover officer and then an unmarked NYPD minivan twice, police said.

It strikes me as pathetic that they fired 50+ rounds and only hit the car with 21?! We had a case in St. Louis where something like 30 shots were fired, and only 1 hit the car, but that one shot killed the driver. I don't know what happened, and I am sympathetic to the family, but for crying out loud, none of us was there to see what really happened and there was a reason shots were fired in the first place, this wasn't just a traffic accident gone wrong.

I just re-read the CNN article...the boys in blue were investigating drug, prostitution, and weapons issues in the club...this was evidently not a savory place. If they followed this particular group out, presumably there was something going on with the victims that the families don't want to talk about. The issue I have with these situations is that the victims are portrayed in the press as choir boys, when in reality, there's no telling what sort of shenanigans they were up to.

well dave you just can't go by that 21 bullets out of 50.front seat passenger takes 11 bullets, guy in the back takes 3,doesn't say how many the driver took,if he took the rest then theres 7 for him.how many went thru the windows which i'm sure were shot out.the ones that hit the train station and houses could have passed thru the windows.but more then likely they were just poor shots.i remember awhile back there was a shootout in detroit i think it was where the cops shot at this guy like 30 times and missed him,yet he shot back like 5 times and got 7 hits.

On the link somewhere is video of the police statement. Using a car as a battering ram against police and police vehicles is not something I would do. Too dangerous and stupid.

The latest on yahoo news states the groom had an altercation in the club with a reference to using a gun, he was followed out of the club by the undercover cop, then the groom tried to run the cop over...not a good plan. I feel for the groom's family, but he blew it.

You try it sometime. It is easy to hit 30 out of 30 on paper but you try to hit a target when things are moving fast around you and it is for real.

Nuff said, kill em

I hate the bleeding heart jury situations, they were up to absolutly no good, and got what they deserved. Theese are NOT choir boys, they're (apparently) pimps and drug dealers...

It's bs like this ^^^ that make it so a theif can sue the person who glued a razor blade to the back of their radio.

That's exactly what I'm doing on the next radio that I'm buying, and I'm also going to wire it backwords (switch the red and black wires)... fuggin theifs...

ANYWAYS yeah, they werent good people, and they're now dead.

50 shots, 21 hits... almost half, good for them. It'd be hella tough to hit a moving vehicle, when u know they're going to try and run u over... Muchless get the occupents.

good, bad people dead, save money in jail time and BULL court cases

Funny topic for me.

Several years ago I was associated with a museum professional who,it turned out,had consistently looted the museum's collections for years and had put up the swag at various auction houses, all of which had records of all transactions.

My name was mentioned as an associate,ADA's questioned me,and finally I went before a grand jury.

What a farce! The ADA who questioned me made the grievous error of interviewing me BEFORE the grand jury proper,so 30 minutes later I was on the stand being asked the same questions fielded to me just before.

When queried about certain details I would say,"you guys just asked me that 20 minutes ago upstairs"which resulted in a pissed off ADA
saying,"strike that".

Well if that was the case they got what they deserved. I have a hard time beleiving the car was just driving away and the cops decided to spray it with fire just for fun.

A car is a deadly weapon just like a gun, if you try to run someone down you better damn well expect them to shoot at you.
