Seeing more Cadillacs on the road

In this area where Lexus, Benz, and BMW are pretty much the rule, I'm seeing new Caddys almost constantly, sometimes several in a row. It looks like they have a real turn-around going on. I'm glad that this country is finally producing a competitive product (still not sure I would buy one, though). Kerkorian just dumped most of his GM stock but I think I'll hang on to mine for a little bit longer.

Yep, I am seeing a lot of CTS-V's in particular. Looked at one last spring, its a nice car but I hated the interior lay out. Not E55, M5 level yet...

Caddy is coming along really fast, they have a little ways to go to catch up, but are covering ground fast. In another model year or two they should be the equal of anything.

Saturn, and Caddy are making really good cars these days, Buick is trying. As of late GM is working very hard on there cars and not so on there trucks. At least that is what I noticed this year at the NY Auto Show.

Yeah, Bob Lutz seems to be doing some things right at Cadillac. I thought the CTS-V was pretty nice-looking. The XLR looks appealing, too. I guess it's just a Corvette with a Caddy body on it, but it's got a nice look.

Yeah but the new Corvette is an amazing car! GM had one on display at the car show with the body off, it uses technoligy the equal to any European car. The frame is aluminum, heck they put the fuel in the frame rails down either side to balance the thing!

The 2007 Z06 is an amazing car, equal to cars costing twice as much, IMHO.

This is coming from someone who used to consider them POS rattle traps!

Yeah, I know, Hat. I didn't mean to deningrate the Vettes. The Vettes have fared very well in comparisons I have read of them with other American and European sports cars.

The European cars just always seemed to me to have more cache about them than American cars. Way more than the Japanese cars. Well, I guess that explains why I'm on this forum instead of the Lexus forum.

Caddy is making cars better than they ever have, and their service ranks in the Top 3. GM trucks are as good as any Toyota in terms of reliablility - I've been watching Toyota's reliablity rankings drop more and more as the years go on, and GMs keeps going up and up.

Toyota isn't what it used to be (but they still have their reputation intact) and GM isn't what it used to be (but they still have their reputation intact). Reality is, the two are closer now than they've ever been.

The Sigma platform (CTS, STS, SRX) are amongst the most reliable and durable cars out there, running neck and neck with Lexus. The STS is a CR best buy.

For those of you with interior questions on the CTS, wait until the next generation due out in the next few years.

I'm not a huge fan of Cadillac's angular styling, but at least they have a unique look, a lineage to them. There are two SRXs in my family - mom and brother - both have been very pleased. Must say I was impressed with just how nice they are. Smooth, quiet, well designed, lots of equipment & toys. Interior is a bit plasticy, but about what's expected in that price range. They're not good with fuel, however. Brother said he can just barely squeeze 21MPG out of it on his mostly highway commute.

Cadillac is finally making an attempt to attract a younger demographic with some product that you don't have to be dead to ride inside. The CTS would have greater appeal in the snowbelt if they offered it in all-wheel-drive guise. Since 1996, the deVille, courtesy of Northstar, actually has enough power to be entertaining, at least in a straight line. I drove a 2006 STS+4 last year, and while it didn't make me want to forget about S-Classes or 7-series, it is probably great competiton against a loaded Audi A6 4.2.

I once raced against a Northstar STS in a BMW 740iL. The BMW had it's work cut out for it.

But remember the STS is a $50k car and not a $75k+ car.

Yeah remember a loaded S550 is a $120k car these days. MB's stickers have been adjusted recently.

It tops fully loaded at 68k. I have a fully loaded model with the 6-cyl (can still light up the rear tires) and the MSRP was 53k. You would be foolish to spent almost 20k extra for essentially AWD and the V-8.

You meant light up the front tires, right?

I thought Caddy was all RWD drive now? Didn't they stop the FWD crap a few years ago?
