Book suggestions for Christmas break

Christmas holiday break is in sight, with the usual two weeks leave. What good recent book(s) can you recommend to read (any genre) ??
I'm thinking about Lance Armstrong's 'It's not about the bike'

Thanks !!

I very much enjoyed Thomas Ricks' "Fiasco". Going back a little further in the year. "To Rule The Waves: How The British Navy Shaped The Modern World" by Arthur Herman was also very enjoyable.

My favorite book of all-time is "The Long Walk", a true story of a man captured and inprisoned in Siberia. He escaped with some prison friends and they walked south to India!!. Once you begin reading it, you won't put it down!!

Here's a review:

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com

Cavalry officer Slavomir Rawicz was captured by the Red Army in 1939 during the German-Soviet partition of Poland and was sent to the Siberian Gulag along with other captive Poles, Finns, Ukranians, Czechs, Greeks, and even a few English, French, and American unfortunates who had been caught up in the fighting. A year later, he and six comrades from various countries escaped from a labor camp in Yakutsk and made their way, on foot, thousands of miles south to British India, where Rawicz reenlisted in the Polish army and fought against the Germans. The Long Walk recounts that adventure, which is surely one of the most curious treks in history.

Two weeks! Lucky dog! A civil servant are we?

Try "Team of Rivals" by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

I'm thinking about picking up a book about Winston Churchill, General Patton, or Donald Trump. I have not decided yet, will do some random Amazon searchs and see what I come up with.

A short walk in the Hindu Kush by Eric Newby.

Newby was a man. I'll post his obit elsewhere so as not to hijack this thread.

Excellent!! You won't be dissapointed. The side story is that Slavomir was actually contacted by a reporter who was gathering information about sightings of the yeti or abominable snowman (sp?) in India. Slavomir had been known to have seen these animals. After talking for a bit, they hit it off and a Vladimir trusted the reporter enough to finally give him the account of how and why he had been in those mountains. A truely awesome and inspiring story!!
