Peter Boyle - R.I.P

The Young Frankenstein fans in the crowd lost a good one last night...

Peter Boyle, dead at 71.

You have to catch some of his early work, pre-Young Frankenstein. Always stole the scene - a very good actor.

Unhappy

I hate "Everybody Spits on Raymond," but this exchange is truly funny:

Raymond's mother: "I don't want to be just some 'trophy wife'."

Her husband Frank (Peter Boyle): "What contest in hell did I win?"

And to this day when I hear "Puttin' On the Ritz" (either a 1930s version or the one by Taco in the '80s), I think of Boyle's monster screeching out the chorus ("Puhh'n onna Riiss!").

The IMDb mentions his first starring role as being the title character in "Joe" (1970, with Susan Sarandon), and that he also played Joe McCarthy in a 1970s TV-movie, "Tail Gunner Joe." He was that rare bird, a top-notch character actor.

Mistress is sitting shiva for this one.....I loved that guy because he personfied just about everyone's dad in my old neighborhood. Of course, Young Fronkenshteen needs to be mentioned especially the scene where he's in bed reading the Wall Street journal...

Rest his soul......My favourite film of his was The friends of Eddie Coyle,a real gritty drama about Boston's Irish mob,but who remembers it nowadays.

He co-starred with Robert Mitchum as his best friend who is ordered to "take out"Mitchum's character, the film is just full of the ugly underbelly of Boston with some great acting as well.

I remember him best for his great performance in "Joe" about 1970, as a blue collar worker who hated the hippies

As movies go, "Joe" was not a great flic. But he played the role of "Joe" Curran well with lines like: "42% of all liberals are queer"

Pretty radical, even for the those times.
Frightening ending to the movie.

.....And it's one, two, three, what are we fightin'for..........
Don't ask me and I don't give a damn. Next stop is
..........

I also thought he played "Tail Gunner Joe" McCarthy well.

his marriage to the lovely candace bergman for all those years warmed the cockles of my heart.

you had to love them both.

His wife described him as a highly intelligent, kind person. The best man at their wedding was John Lennon. I don't think you can be a bad person and have John Lennon as your best man.

One of my favorite lines from Young Frankenstein is when Terri Garr asks Dr. Frankenstein . . . "If you gave the monster part of your brain, what did he give to you?" Then she started singing opera.

RIP Peter Boyle. You make me laugh every night. 71 is way too young.
