Hummer H2 vs Schoolbus

http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061127/LOCAL/61127034

Holy gawd, that H2 crumpled up. And not in the good, Mercedes way

There's an odd feature to that story. It states that the school bus collided with the SUV. That bus must have a very high ratio reverse gear if it could do that much damage going backwards.

One person was injured this morning when a sport utility vehicle crashed into a school bus on the Near Southside.

"No children were on the Indianapolis Public Schools bus when it collided with the SUV at Terrace Avenue and Madison Avenue, north of Manual High School, at 10:19 a.m., according to Marion County police dispatch."

Ever see the frame on a school bus like that? Makes a semi look frail. Plus, due to good old fashioned bumper height mismatch, the most solid portions of the H2 slid under the frame of the bus. Moral to the story: Better to smack a Kia Rio than a 10-ton bus.

The entire front passenger compartment is gone, how did anyone survive that? I wonder what the impact speed was?

The H2 hit nearly square on so I doubt the bus was at fault. I am glad no children were injured.

Oh, God! This is just going to kill the market for Hummers now.

"You mean I'm not invincable when I'm driving my Hummer H2?!"

Those school buses always looked some what flimsy to me, I guess I was wrong.

I guess looks are deceiving . . . I always thought Hummers looked pretty damned sturdy. That was a shocking photo.

Wow - that schoolbus is built sturdier than a brick outhouse.

As for the Hummer.... I really didn't need another reason not to get one, but looks like I got one anyway.

Notice the minimal visible damage to the bus body. I wonder if some of the missing passenger compartment was courtesy of the emergency responders.
