Wal Mart wine, coming soon!

This is so hot - you are seeing it 2 weeks before its release date!

Wal-Mart announced that, on January 1, 2007, it will begin offering customers a new discount item - WALMART's own brand of wine. The world's largest retail chain is teaming up with Ernest & Julio Gallo Winery of California to produce the spirits at an affordable price, in the $2-$5 range.

Wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to throw a bottle of WalMart brand into their shopping carts, but "there is a market for inexpensive wine," said Kathy Micken, professor of marketing at University of Arkansas , B entonville. She said: "But the right name is important."

Customer surveys were conducted to determine the most attractive name for the WalMart wine brand. The top surveyed names in order of popularity were:

10. Chateau Traileur Parc
9. White Trashfindel
8. Big Red Gulp
7. World Championship Riesling
6. NASCARbernet
5. Chef Boyardeaux
4. Peanut Noir
3. I Can't Believe It's Not Vinegar!
2. Grape Expectations
1. Nasti Spumante

It won't happen in Pennsylvania.

I thought I'd already seen a Walmart whine on this forum..........

Oildale winery, a bit of a local, has beat them to it. White Trash White, Redneck Red, Grandma/pa's Last Syrah, and Tiny Bubbles (champagne) have been around for a couple of years.

I'm curious, why the comment about PA... I hear rumors of Walmart owned liquor licenses there...

You neglected to mention Bible Belt Beaujolais.

Imagine: a candlelight dinner, Steely Dan record playing on the turntable, and you pull of a sexy box of $3.00 wine. James Bond would be proud.

What is the big deal?!
Wine is FOOD. Cut the mystery, and stop sounding like wine snobs.
If you don't like it don't buy it.

A .59 cent cheeseburger is food, but it doesn't taste like meat. It sounds like they are going to sell .59 cents cheeseburger wine, like the rest of the junk they sell.

Meh, why not. Let poor folks enjoy the health benefits of red wine too.

Hell, the Romans drank it watered down. Only barbarians drank wine straight up.

Leave Steely Dan (and the turntable, and the $3 box wine, for that matter) out of this!

(Listened to "Aja" on the '67 Dual 1214, and finished half a bottle of Smoking Loon Cabernet this evening. No Wal-mart shopping for me since 1997)

I love my Dual 621, even though I don't know how to fiddle with it, except for the stobe light speed adjustment. A friend of ours called me up one day and said that since I was a bit of a luddite, I might want to come get this old stereo out of her garage before she threw it away. To my great surprise, it was a Dual 621, a Yamaha CR-320 receiver, and a pair a Bang & Olufsen speakers that her ex husband bought new in 1978. After telling her that a stereo nut would pay good money for it, she insisted that I take it home.
