From Cable to Ditectv??

When i had Cable,i was able to tape one channel and watch another. All of the people i talk to tell me that no DVR Recorder will work.I don't know if a TIVO will work but i don't want to pay a fee. If anyone has any info, please let me know.

I had DTV a long time ago, and I think you need another tuner. Call them, and tell them that unless they throw in another tuner, you are going back to cable (more or less). Yes, it's another tuner, but the advantage is you can put it in any part of your house (as long as you have coax there).

I used to install DTV, I know all about it

I have a Tivo. It is a special Tivo made for DirecTV (but a lot cheaper than typical Tivos - free to $100 depending on specials they are running). They no longer deal with Tivo, have their own DTV-branded DVRs which are good units. There is a $5 monthly fee for the Tivo service. You can record 1 channel while watching another - or watch something previously recorded while recording 2 channels live. It's well worth the $5/month! I love my tivo. Wouldn't live without it. What's on TV right now? I'm at work! Guess what - it doesnt matter. I watch what I want, when I want to. Who still uses tapes?

The HD20 will allow you to watch one channel and record another. As far as I know, all DirecTV Tivo`s and DVR`S have that feature. I have three of them.

Bull$hit, all new Dtv recorders have two tuners. They also have several HD tuners the Tivo HD DVR and their own HD20DVR which is MPeg4.

If that is the case, then any DVR with 2-tuners will work? I talked to the guys at Circuit City and Hi FY Buys and they all said that no DVR will let me watch one channel and record another.

What kind of DVR are you talking about, I have a Tivo SD DVR (2 tuner) Tivo HD DVR ( 2 tuner ) and Directv DVR ( 2 Tuner) Directv 2tuner HD DVR.

Either you are getting a line of idiots or you are not asking the right questions. You do have to have two cables going to the receiver btw.

When they installed the Dish they ran two extra cables for a DVR. I want the least expensive DVR with no fees.
I will not be using it that often.

Are the DVR's and the satellite boxes in the same unit now? I have a DVR that is not tivo and I used it with digital cable a fewyears ago (needed cable box). The sucky part was it could not reliably change the channel on the cable box since it was trying to mimic the remote, it had a gizmo you hung in front of the cable box that sent the remote signal. Going to a single digit channel was fine, on 2 digit channels it didn't seem to get the first digit most of the time.
