12g or 20g?

how many of you shoot clays with a 20g? ive never owned a 12g until this weekend. ive always shot clays with a 20g. i tried today and i shot 10 out of 10 every time with the 20g but the 12g was like 6-7 out of 10. any input?

You're probably leading it too much with the 12 as you're used to the 20 which doesn't throw the lead out there as fast.
PS I just went quail hunting yesterday (with a O/U 12) and got 4 valley quail.

I've only ever used 20g on clays... but saying that I have very limited experience, all of mine being in rifle shooting.
As Mwood said, you were probably leading it too much.

12. When I was a kid I started with Full but as my lead improved I alternate between modified and improved cylinder, modified for upland birds, improved cylinder for clays.

All depends how in tune you are with the gun, with my long arms pull length is everything.

Back in the olden days, I shot clays with whatever gun I was going to use when bird hunting. If snipes or quail, then 20 ga. If doves or ducks, then 12 ga. Doves move so bleeding fast that I need a dense, large pattern to score. Mostly I just see how much shot I can put in the air.

For me, if I squeeze the trigger a third time I may as well throw the shell into the woods. I don't recall hitting a bird on the 3rd shot, though I probably have. With squirrel hunting I've used that third shell to drop a second or even third tree rat. I just ain't worth poop when it comes to bird killing.

Birds are more fun to shoot than clays - 12 gauge for the big birds, and 20 gauge for the small. Like you, I shoot my 20 better than my 12 and I would imagine that's because my 20 is easier to handle - less weight.
