Hello Folks, greetings!!

Hi everyone, just introducing myself (and have posted a technical question already on tech forum!)

My every day car is a Merc 300sel in anthrazitegrau, it has a total of 309000 miles so far, is in great condition, showing no signs of dying at all. Is 309000 miles some sort of record on these things...

In fact, I have just replaced the head gasket, and was pleasantly surprised to see absolutely no bore wear, and no wear on the cam at all, not even a small amount of wear....amazing...

I also have a TVR Chimaera, and my wife drives an incredibly boring but good Volvo S80..

Anyway, Hi folks,
Mike.

Welcome aboard. OD is always interested in the international perspective. We'll have a tendency to think you're driving a Mercury instead of a Mercedes.

Welcome!!

Given the salt, rust and MOT issues you folks have over there, 309,000 miles on a car is indeed noteworthy. I wonder what year your car is...

Most cars in England seem to be thrown away like used kleenex tissues, after a very few years of use, it seems to me.

Thanks for the welcome folks.
No, I'm not really a gorilla, but a nickname I was given when in school which has stuck with me as I suppose I do look a little like one...but don't have a silver back I must add.

Jim B - the Merc was registered in August 1989, and mechanically is absolutely fine. It has been serviced at the Mercedes dealer until 299,000 miles from there on, by me. I have just replaced the head gasket on it. Even more amazing was the fact there was absolutely no wear at all on the bores, or even the camshaft - amazing. I have posted a picture on my profile.

With regard to cars being thrown away - It's not that bad really, there are plenty of older cars around, but the mot test is pretty strict. I really dislike newer cars personally. My wife drives a 3 year old Volvo S80 which I find as interesting as having my teeth drilled.

If I'm not in the Merc, I'm in the tvr which certainly focuses the mind.

All the best,
Mike.

Volvo S80 - So sensible it's boring.

i read about the tvr before reading where you are from and thinking wow! what an unusual car to find here in the states.

i dont think that 309k would be any record but it is still a nice large number.

keep up the good work!

Thanks Tom, if you are ever in the UK, you are most welcome to have a drive in the TVR. If I could post pictures I would, but not sure if I can....I'll put one on my profile.
