Anyone ever ride in a 600SEC?

I just purchased a 600SEC from Beverly Hills, Ca. So far, all I have seen are the pictures of this beautiful beast. Anyone ever ride in one or seen one up close and personal? Only 159 units made it to North America for 1993.

V12 powered C140's are especialy sexy! Pics please!

Welcome!

There is a forum member JimF (he has a '94 500SEC) and has the maintenance issues for these under control. Use the search function till you get to his website. Worth a look

Use the search function for this site, try Will70724 read all his threads, he's just purchased a 1992 600SEL and this body style, the W140, had been discussed at some lengths, the strengths and weaknesses of this car

You can grad a cool detailed little model of the 600SEC in 1/43" scale from www.ebay.de very inexpensively (I have one). I think Paul's Model Art makes them. Click modellautos and go look for one. Most German ebay sellers speak good English, will ship to the USA, (ask them if they ship to USA, what payments acceptable, US dollars sent at your own risk, see exhange rate www.xe.com for $ to Euros, the German sellers are easy to deal with, pack very well, and airmail shipment to your door takes less than a week, these models are pretty detailed and quite common, probably won't cost more than
10-15 euros to win one.

Welcome to the forum here. (There is another good one, www.benzworld.org you can check the W140 section for more information on your car.)

Where do you live? You'll need to find a good mechanic. Click on the
"Good Shops" section of this site. If you are in Southern California, read the thread on MR. MB, in tarzana Calif. this is mabye the best place in So. Calif for example.

Do books and records come with it? Who owned it, reason why sold?
Did you buy the car from Beverly Hills LTD the Mercedes dealer? Or a private place like JEM Motors in Hollywood or another used car dealer? What color is the interior and exterior? You bought the lst year of the W140 coupe, that car probably cost about $130,000 when new back in 1993, it takes a leap of faith to buy a 14 year old one of these, they had many complex and failure prone items, like the AC evaporator, it takes 22 hours of labor to fix a broken one, it could cost well over $3000, because the entire dash needs to be removed to get to it. They have soft closer doors, dual antennae that go up when you reverse, and many interesting but expensive to fix options.

Consider the engine non rebuildable, because to replace an early V12 might cost mosre than the value of the car. Because maintenance costs can be so high, the resale value is very low for used '92-'94 V12 coupes and sedans.

They are very very fast, quiet, smooth and imperious when they are running well. Link to the Jeremy Clarkson Youtube video of the 600SEL road test on the first model for an interesting take on them. You are right , the coupe model was VERY rare.

In sum, think of it as: Huge fun, huge thirst, huge depreciation, huge image,, quality, space, comfort, authority, hewn from stone.

You are in for one hell of a ride, and you can take that statement however you want!!

This forum will be helpful as you go.

Thanks Jim B.

Thanks for all the good info. The MB has 97,000 miles on it. Its exterior is black with grey interior. From the pictures it looks to be in great shape. Time will tell once it arrives by transport. I received a carfax prior to purchase and didn't see anything to be alarmed about.

So, is that a 140, then? I wasn't sure what year it changed.

Whichever chassis number it is, it is SCHWEEEET! That's a fantastic-looking car, man. Good for you. I hope it runs well and you enjoy driving it for many years.

Yes, it's on a 140 chassis. The transporter just called and said the truck is on its way to Phoenix, Arizona and the next stop after that will be Atlanta. If the weather holds up, I should get it on Wednesday of next week.

Was there a '92 SEC? I've seen the 126's that went thru 1991. This is a 140 which went thru 1999, I believe. Jim B? I'm sure you have the answer to this question.

I saw a white 600SEC this morning at the Burbank airport. There're always in country club parking lots or law offices.

There will probably be a handful at the MB gathering in Irvine this weekend.

Thanks for the pics, nice car. I like the side view best.
I never was too big of a fan of that body style, but I'm sure they did a heck of a job on that 600 Coupe.

I think there was a Euro 600 SE, which I would prefer, but that's really a matter of taste.
Never been too fond of the 140 body style.

No SEC models for 1992. The first year for the 600SEC was 1993. I believe they were called the 600CL from '94 through '99.
