Separation Fence

250,000 Palestinians fenced in, says report
Separation fence closes off 21 Palestinian enclaves, some completely cut off

Some 250,000 Palestinians have been closed off from the rest of the West Bank by the separation fence, according to a report released by "Bimkom - Planners for Planning Rights" human rights organization.

The report said there were 21 such enclaves and that 8,000 Palestinians lived in "seam enclaves" stuck between the Green Line and the separation fence.

According to the report, there are 21 enclaves in the Palestinian Territories, home to some 250,000 Palestinians. 8,000 of them live in "seam enclaves" stuck between the Green Line and the separation fence.

"This population is living behind fences, under a regime of permits and bans, in an area cut off from the rest of the West Bank's residents, including friends and first-degree relatives," the report said.

In some areas, the villages are fenced in from three or four angles, cutting them off from urban centers, sources of livelihood and service centers, severely harming daily life to the point of disintegration of the Palestinian society in the area.

The report revealed that in some cases the situation is such that single homes are disconnected from the towns they belong to, turning their residents into "guests" in their own homes.

"This forms a horrible situation in which a man living in his home for decades is forced to get a periodic permit in order to be in the area were he lives. Without this permit, he is subject to the penalties of the law – up to five years in prison or a heavy fine," the report said.

Regarding medical issues, the report showed that: "In order to reach hospitals in nearby towns, the enclaves' residents must pass through the fence's gates, which is not possible during the nighttime, meaning that the time passing before soldiers are called in an emergency could be the difference between life and death."

Route dictated by settlements
The report also stated that despite the High Court of Justice's ruling on the fence's route, it is still very much dictated by the settlements' needs.

The report gives an example of the Palestinian village Bartaa, where the route of the Fence was changed by three kilometers (about 1.8 miles) beyond the Green Line, mainly in order to give room for the expansion of the Jewish settlement Rihan, and the construction of a new settlement called "Rihanit".

Bimkom activist, architect Alon Cohen-Lipschitz said that the route of the Fence was decided with total disregard to the Palestinian residents.
Cohen-Lipschitz gave as an example the town of Bir Nabala near Jerusalem. The enclave formed in the area left 15,000 residents in a small space surrounded from every direction by the Fence, with only one underground passageway controlled by a roadblock.

"Upon completion of the fence, access to the educational system and medical services will become impossible for residents of the enclave," said Cohen-Lipschitz, adding that the long-term continued existence of these enclaves was doubtful.

Israeli Holocaust trustee blasts Hebron settlers

Saturday January 20, 10:15 PM
JERUSALEM (Reuters) - A senior official of Israel's central Holocaust memorial on Saturday assailed Jewish settlers who harass Palestinians in a tinderbox West Bank city, saying the abuse recalled the anti-Semitism of 1930s Europe.
The attack by Yosef Lapid, chairman of Yad Vashem's advisory council, was prompted by Israeli television footage showing a Hebron settler woman hissing "whore" at a
Palestinian neighbour and settler children lobbing rocks at Arab homes.
The spectacle stirred outrage in the Jewish state, where many view the settlers as opposing coexistence with a future Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Lapid, a Holocaust survivor who lost his father to the Nazi genocide, said in a weekly commentary on Israel Radio that the acts of some Hebron settlers reminded him of persecution endured by Jews in his native Yugoslavia on the eve of World War Two.
"It was not crematoria or pogroms that made our life in the diaspora bitter before they began to kill us, but persecution, harassment, stone-throwing, damage to livelihood, intimidation, spitting and scorn," Lapid said, reiterating remarks made earlier this week in Israel's Maariv newspaper .
"I was afraid to go to school, because of the little anti-Semites who used to lay in ambush on the way and beat us up. How is that different from a Palestinian child in Hebron?"
Estee Yaari, a spokeswoman for Yad Vashem, said the organisation did not stand by the comments of Lapid, who spoke in his capacity as a radio commentator.
"Lapid was not speaking on behalf of Yad Vashem but as a private person," Yaari said.
"SICK PERSON"
Hebron has been a frequent flashpoint of more than six years of Israeli-Palestinian fighting. Some 400 settlers live there, under heavy Israeli military guard, among 150,000 Palestinians.
"The man is obviously a very, very sick person, to compare the Jews in Hebron to barbarians and compare us to the Nazis," David Wilder, a spokesman for the settlers in Hebron, said in response to Lapid.
Another community spokesman, Noam Arnon, said 37 Jews had been killed in the Hebron area in the past six years.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert ordered a cabinet-level probe last week into Palestinian allegations that abuse by Hebron settlers is commonplace and routinely ignored by Israel.
Hebron Governor Afif Jabari said:" If they are serious about coexistence, the Israelis must take practical steps on the hundreds of daily violations against Palestinians in the old city."
Lapid, a former Israeli justice minister, appeared to agree.
"We Jewish citizens of Israel wave a reprimanding finger at most. Worse still, I tolerated this silently as justice minister too," Lapid said.
The World Court has branded the settlements illegal but many Jews claim a biblical birthright to the West Bank, which Israel captured from Jordan in the 1967 Middle East war.
Lapid said while there was no comparing the Holocaust, in which 6 million Jews died, with Palestinian suffering from Israel's policies, this did not mean Israelis could not be culpable.
"It is inconceivable for the memory of Auschwitz to warrant ignoring the fact that there are Jews among us who behave today towards Palestinians just like German, Hungarian, Polish and other anti-Semites behaved towards Jews," he said.

Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above,
Don't fence me in.
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love,
Don't fence me in.
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze,
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees,
Send me off forever but I ask you please,
Don't fence me in.

Just turn me loose, let me straddle my old saddle
Underneath the western skies.
On my Cayuse, let me wander over yonder
Till I see the mountains rise.

I want to ride to the ridge where the west commences
And gaze at the moon till I lose my senses
And I can't look at hovels and I can't stand fences
Don't fence me in.

Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies,
Don't fence me in.
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love,
Don't fence me in.
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees
Send me off forever but I ask you please,
Don't fence me in

Just turn me loose, let me straddle my old saddle
Underneath the western skies
On my Cayuse, let me wander over yonder
Till I see the mountains rise.
Ba boo ba ba boo.

I want to ride to the ridge where the west commences
And gaze at the moon till I lose my senses
And I can't look at hobbles and I can't stand fences
Don't fence me in.
No.
Poppa, don't you fence me in

Yes, it is sad. However, who made this fence idea come alive in the first place?

I did. We are also supporting all sorts of people. What difference is there? We d what we do because it benefits us. That is the way of the world. Maybe not UTOPIA but the rest of the world.

Imagine if it was being done to me but also imagine if I did something for years to deserve it. Making deals with the arab army to clear the way in exchange for war spoils, constantly sending bombers over, etc, etc. The list goes on. I

magine my parents making me do chores or depriving me of things or spanking me, etc, etc. Wow. Life sucks. Imagine that my parents ground me. That bites. Imagine that during the last week I broke the neighbor's window on purpose, stole Dad's car, flattened the tires on Joe's car, etc, etc and maybe there might be cause that I was punished.

If we had bombers coming across the mexican border the way they did into Israel before the fence, you would see the quickest construction project in the history of man.

Israel didn't want the fence, they HAD to have it. Civilian bombing deaths dried up. Looks like that **** really works.....

Oh no, I'm sure they didn't want it...

Here's a link from within this forum, which may help on "the quickest construction project in the history of man."

Absolutely. Israel has the right to protect itself from bombers with explosive vests coming into their country, and from people lobbing rockets into Tel Aviv, and from people vowing to wipe Israel off the map.

There is plenty of evidence around to support the theory that radical Islam as practiced in modern Palestine is little more than a religion of pure white hate and violence. They are even fighting among one another, squabbling endlessly and appear to have an out of control birthrate.

If Palestinian violence directed at Israel stopped, would the fence come down? Or was the violence and excuse to de facto subdivide Palestine?

I don't think there's an answer to the question, now. But I think that the question addresses the nub of the problem.

It always, amazes me.
In one of his last years speeches, PM Olmert gave in front of the US Congress, he told us about this girl who went to school on the bus, the bus blew up, so the parents who knew the investigating police chief were asking for any remains. It turned out, so he tells us, they couldn't even find a shoe lace.

I'm kind of curious, how about all the evidence indicating a Palestinian suicide bomber ... I mean, practically, he must, by default be at the epicenter of the blast.

There was a post here on the forum, telling us, those Arab suicide bombers yell "Alah" before they blow themselves up.

Was anyone around here, incidently standing next to an Arab suicide bomber lately, just before the same blew him/herself up ...?... and being able to confirm ... ?

If their wealthy brethren in Saudi and Iran actually wanted to help the poor Palestinians they would be sending them money for food, etc., instead of suicide vests. Truth is they are using these poor suckers for their own means. Only fools believe that if we let Israel fall that these folks would like us better. Wake up and smell the coffee guys!
