Is this really that bad?

Ok, I have a question.
First, the explanation.
I am a student at a large university here on the west coast. Last semester I took a class titled "Select Problems in Financial Managment". In this class the final project was to put together a presentation that was meant to be a pitch to a VC or other funding source. As a part of the project we had to put together a complete business plan, complete financial projections for the first 12 months and yearly projections for the first 5 years. We had to do the Income statement, balance sheet, statement of owners equity, and cash flow statement, we also had to estimate free cash flows for the first five years and do a valuation estimate.
Now skip forward to this semester, I'm taking a course called "Small Business Finance" and the big project is to do the exact same thing, again. Last semester the project was done with a group of three people. All three members of last semesters group are together again this semester in this class. After we had done the presentation last semester and had a chance to see how other students did their projects we saw some areas where we could have improved.
Now the question...Would it be wrong to recycle last semesters project for this semesters class? We have been discussing it and we would like to make the changes to the presentation that we had talked about last semester and then just do it again. What do you think?

I would do an entirely different one. You know how to do it all so it will go faster.

I had to start a business for my high school economics class.. sounds small but I was the only one out of 25 to go in depth to the max.. I had charts, graphs, I went out and actually looked at warehouses for my business..I got paper work for the loans etc... all for my project.. none the less I passed the class with a 110A

Being a college student as well, if you can get away with it I would. Just polish it a bit and change it.

I mostly agree with this, but would add my own thoughts:

If you were an investment banker or a Big 4 firm, and I came to you as a start up seeking VC you would prepare my presentation and projections. You have been down this road before. You take my info and put it in a presentation that you know from experience will be well received by those you present it to.
You have gained experience by doing the same thing last year.
If you come out of college and do this for a living, I believe it's an accurate statement to say that you won't reinvent the wheel with every client that comes to you.

My clients expect me to be effective and efficient. I certainly don't re-do financial statements from scratch each year. Or if I have a client A in industry X and I pick up new client B in same industry, I certainly would use, to the extent practical, statement formats, etc of client A and make necessary changes.
You can change the names and numbers to give it a little difference, but I see nothing unethical in what you propose doing.

What he said.

When I taught I encouraged students to use the same research paper for other classes. Why not? I'd give a grade for the first draft (which may have been the final paper from the previous class) and another grade for the final paper.

My beef with students was mostly over (1) plagiarism and (2) poor literature review and (3) inadequate synthesis. I looked for an rewarded originality of ideas, but that is extremely rare. From birth, we teach kids that conventionality is where rewards come from, not originality, so it is very rare to see a student take a risk. Other teachers have other demands and other emphases. I wasn't really critical of stylistic issues where other folks were extreme sticklers. I was somewhat tough on spelling and grammar.

A student who cannot effectively communicate an idea is a student who should seek fulfillment in the domestic or food services industries.

If the purpose of getting an education is to learn and practice skills you need for business, then I suggest doing a different project. After all, you have the experience of doing one, this one will go quicker. More practice will benefit you ion the long wrong.

However, if the class instructor allows, I see no moral dilemna.
