Satelite TV VS cable

After a big fiasco with the cable company (Comcast), I have decided to stop all service with them. My primary needs are fast internet service and of course good tv with all the good channels. What can you tell me about having a satelite dish and other forms of internet service. Does anyone know anything about Verizon coming out with a new tv service?

Depends on where you live. If you live in Sarasota or Bradenton (or parts of Tampa & Temple Terrace), then you either have already available, or will soon.
So... where do you live?

I live in Baltimore Maryland.

Sat for internet still has the telephone line for upload, like sending large files, as the weakest link. About the only issue I've heard with Sat is signal loss during storms and sometimes the need for more than one dish for HD signals.

This link should take you to the Verizon site. http://www22.verizon.com/content/FiOSTV/ Enter your phone number, and it will tell you if it's available. (the info that I have access to, was too vague)
If they say "no", but you think it is in your area (you have seen crews burying orange conduit, and other crews splicing) then send me you name and number, and I can have it put on a list; so that once it is there, they will call you.

Good Luck!

Wrong info. You don`t need a phone line for Sat internet although you did several years ago.

For Baltimore, check for Verizon Fios. They have a fairly attractive TV/Internet package. I have the net part of it and it`s wickedly fast.

For a good breakdown on all services, check out broadband reports com.

I put my number in and it is not available in my area yet. I filled out the info so they can contact me. What about Direct TV?

i have directv and bellsouth dsl and i LOVE them... before i moved back to mississippi i had comcast cable tv and internet and it cost about $20 more per month for less channels and slower internet connection... plus with directv i can get the nfl sunday ticket and watch the dolphins lose every sunday :)

That's great that they did away with the land line. What kind of upload speeds does the dish handle?

I've had both Dish and digital cable for years. I think cable is better. I always get clear reception, tons of channels, good price and on demand channels and movies..... Oh I forgot, HD channels too.

The only thing I hate..... Repeat "HATE!" about my cable service is the commercial volume! I have to turn down the volume at every commercial... How freaking annoying!

Thanks!
