I know there are plenty of hunters & fast food freeks here, but this is not PETA propaganda, but just some insight into what most people in the US eat everyday....

It reads like PETA propoganda. You don't want to eat meat? Fine don't, but please have the courtesy to let the rest of us do as we please.

Nice bumper stickers

Save a cow. Eat a vegetarian.

Vegetarian: Indian word for poor hunter.

My daughter is a vegetarian. She is not opposed to people eating meat and she will readily admit that if she needed to eat meat in order to survive, she would not hesitate to do so.

She, however, is opposed to the way that animals, who are intended for human consumption, are mistreated.

I agree with her and support her 100%. I have written this before elsewhere on this board: we have been given stewardship over all creatures on this planet. We owe them a duty of care. It does not mean that we cannot raise them for food or for their leather or for their fur, it just means that we should not, and connot, inflict unnecessary pain and suffering on them.

As Maximus (the Gladiator) said: "what we do in this world follows us in the next."

i live in the heart of hog confinement country.and i don't argue one bit about anything said there.i know a few farmers that still let their hogs out in the harvested fields to root.and i tell ya what the meat off them tastes 100% better then the processed stuff.talk here in the state now is with all the ethanol plants springing up that the price of corn is going up,this is good news for grain farmers, but for the farmer that raises livestock its a catch-22.like the high corn prices when he sells, but doesn't like the high prices when he has to buy feed for those confinement hogs.right here in my county which is 625 square miles,an ethanol plant just started up.between them and the egg factory they consume almost all the corn this county grows.and there is another plant in the construction phase.when they get going this county will have to import corn.not good for the livestock farmers.prices of meat are gonna go up,and not just a little.i can see alot of them getting out of it,just not profitable.

Well put. I hope your daughter never is in that position, so she can stay vegetarian as long as she wants to.

MY personal reasons for being veg. are

1-a) Better Health - lost weight- don't get sick - more energy in every way....
1-b) got tired of getting sick from the occaisional not so good meat meals..

2- (related.) The unsanitary quality of what comes out of factroy farms.

3- That red blood spot in chicken breast.....(mmmmm good...)

I tried going meatless for a while. Now I'm not another Schwarzenegger but I like to lift weights and such, just makes me feel better and in general, better about myself. I tried 2000 calories a day of a veggetarian diet and I must say it was a lot more annoying to me. I'd really have to plan out my meals to make sure I was satisfied by the end of them. For protein I did the nuts thing but you can only eat so many nuts. So I started to drink more whey protein and I guess that is a decent meat subsitute but it starts to taste like crap after a while. So I stopped with the whey protein drinks and tried just doing nuts and some soy stuff and my arms had shrunk by a couple inches within 2 days! I kept it up, trying to down more protein without resorting to whey but I kept getting all noodly-armed and gangly. I tried eating more nuts and tofu but blech, it gets old. Back to meat for me.

Thanks to my genes I've got the broad chest of the males of my mom's side yet the lanky long arms of my dad's side. Which is why I like to have some meat on my arms to balance it all out. (it's probably all in my head)

Bottom line is for me, before I head out to school I just get a slice of bread and jam some nice turkey on there and wolf it down with some water and thats it. No planning necessary.

And just because you eat meat doesn't mean you can't also eat a ton of veggies.

Well said, Ernesto.

I've cut back my consumption of red meat drastically for health reasons. This only reinforces the case.
