Sounded perfect to me! Damn that thing pulled hard.

That was some sick ass ****. Any numbers?

The American in me would take that noise over a v-12 Ferrari any day.

Yep, that's a nice one. My friend has a 460 that I help with from time to time, and it barely generates enough vacuum at idle to run the brake booster. We're working at getting it tuned right; the next step is to limit the advance to 11 degrees (22 at the crank) so he can advance it beyond 12BTDC at idle. That should help the vacuum situation a bit.

Idle sounds like marbles in a can.. wheres the rumble. Probably just teh sound quality.

How do you pass smog with that?!

I love that sound! Whoooooeeee!

WAAAAY too big of a cam for street use.

Matt L 02-16-2007 06:57 PM

My friend's 460 also has way too big of a cam for street use. It's .600 lift and I forget how much overlap.

It's drivable due to the 3000 rpm stall converter. And a hell of a lot of fun, if you can afford the gas. It's quite thirsty.

Yeah, On that vets manual, he'd have to drop the clutch at 3000 RPM or higher to get a good run at the drag strip.

Decient horespower can be made without such a bad idle. It just takes the right combination.

A friend of mine screws around time to time building motors.

One of his memorable projects was an S-10 pickup. He bought it new in '86 and blew 2 4.3L. he decided to put a v-8 in it. He put COUNTLESS hours into this thing. You had to remove the entire cab to put the motor in or out. He custom made an oil pan to clear the front diff. He handmade the headers. This was all done before the V-8 kits were ever on the market.

The motor put out something like 800HP. He put a lift on the truck and had 31x10.5 tires on it. You had to start the truck in 2nd gear (stock 5spd). When starting in 2nd you could smoke all four tires through 3rd and into 4th. The truck was absolutely unreal.

He kept boiling the oil and he couldn't figure out why. The end came when he took everything apart and discovered that he bent the input shaft to the tranny.

I think I would tire of a lumpy came like that quickly. I like my cars more refined. At a new years eve party I went to this year, one of the guys brought his new Z06 that Lingenfelter had supposidly tuned to 700hp, with their turbo kit. I was way to drunk to get all the details(way to much Vodka:D ), but I do know the idle was a lot smoother than that and it sounded pretty bad ass when he reved it.
