*** Ralph's talkin' 'bout the Dems! ***

He shot down Gore and was partly responsible for pointing out the foibles of letting a Florida Democrat-dominated re-count get out of hand.

The "Nader-nator" is now gunnin' for Hillary!

He called her "...just another bad version of Bill Clinton."

Is this the dream the Dems have been hoping not to see?

Are the Reps getting all squishy in their pants?

What's your take?

Carleton Hughes 02-16-2007 07:47 PM

Nader is,was a brilliant man, trouble with him,as with others of his ilk is that he dramatically overstated his case when it served the purposes of publicity and self-promotion,a victim of tragically human failings, hubris foremost.

We all know about the original Corvair...But what about the Pontiac Tempest?although front-engined had the same rear swing arm transaxle, and more accidents.

Nader has done a great deal of good but, like other geniuses suffering from "the catastrophe of success"has a tendency to inflate his accomplishments and develop his own infallible personality cult...Believe me,I know the type well.

Is Nader gonna run as a dem?
He mightave cost Gore in the GE.

8-ball says "Too early to tell, ask again later."

Why did he just pick on "The Sporty Corvair"?

What about

-the VW beetle?

- <cough> W108 Mercedes <cough>.

CORVette + Bel AIR = CORVAIR

(Chevrolet hoped)

By the time the Corvair was killed, in 1969, the swing axle problem was fixed, and they were really cool looking little cars by then. Too bad. I enjoyed hearing the buzz and thrash of those Corvair engines.

First commandment for Corvair owners: Carry fan belts!!

Covairs are kickass cars. 2500 lbs and 190 HP, decent handling, yes please. I cant remember which year/model had that whole oversteer controversy.

First generation 1960-1964

from 65 on, it had fully independant suspension a la corvette. they were sweet handling little cars.

my dad had a 65 coupe and later i had a 66 coupe.

at the limit it would just go into a sweet four wheel drift as nice as can be. no drama no muss.

I had a 66 4 dr and a 67 convertible. I loved driving those cars, but once the pushrod tube o-rings started leaking, it'd fill up the interior with oil smoke when you turned on the heater. Hell of a good car for the snowy winters of Upstate NY.
There was a turbocharged Spyder version wasn't there?

t walgamuth 02-16-2007 11:18 PM

Yes. 180 hp as i remember. And a four single carb version foe 140 hp.

I once drove a turbo '64. It came on the boost with a rush. I was afraid to push it in a turn because of the evil reputation of the swing axles.

When they did the filming for the Nadar study, they reversed the air pressure in the tires. It was supposed to be 17 # front and 34# rear I believe...they reversed it and made a big deal about the tire folding off the rim.

Oh well, when you are gunning for fame, who needs fair play?

Cha baby, Nader Nader Nader. It's happened before and it will again. As much as people hate Bush, they really need to assess what Hillary, Obama, are really getting them into.

t walgamuth 02-16-2007 11:33 PM

So I suppose the Dems will have to find a spoiler whore to run as an independent on the right to offset Ralphie.

Right on the money about Nader imo!

A good friend of mine had a 63 Spyder convertible. 4 speed. Supercharger. When it ran right, a neat car for a couple of college boys.;)

Carleton Hughes 02-17-2007 08:41 AM

Hey,I had a 110 hp Monza Spyder Turbo ragtop in my '20's.Fast,stable,low center of gravity and very rapid, responsive shifts.

The main problem was unseen cancer, spring towers and other suspension-related sheet metal rusted themselves to destruction, but that's what you get with a spot welded, unibody car........
