New Technique for Flipping the Bird

Iwas going up wonderful I-95 yesterday when I cut someone off. Actually there was plenty of room but when she saw my turn signal, she sped up to keep me from taking my spot, but I went anyway.

Of course she drove up next to me to give me the fnger, only she had the sun visor turned to the side so I couldn't see her face and she wouldn't see my response. A crafty one!

I love it when they sit in the left lane not moving over for anyone, and when forced to pass on the right, they accelerate to keep you from succeeding.

I wish they'd force driving tests on everyone with high ratios of "sorry, you suck as a driver" failures.

I don't get people who are inconsiderate just because they can. Somehow strokes their ego or something.

1) People who won't move over to let traffic merge smoothly.

2) People who honk at folks who obviously made a mistake.

3) Cowards who pretend to sit patiently behind you and then blast their horn as you turn off in a different direction.

kmaysob 02-18-2007 09:38 AM

i was fightin with that yesterday. im movin a buddy all weekend and some of the roads narrow down from 2-3 lanes down to one. he has to speed up and block them so i can get through. im pullin a huge double axle, idk why anyone would want to risk getting hit by me.

What's with that BS?

I drive at 35 mph and slow to make a right turn off the main road. It's a 110° turn so you can't take it at anything more than about 6 mph. Sure enough, the DB has to ring the horn because he had to slow to nearly 10 mph.........because he was following at 15'.

What I like to do is watch that happen, then cut off the douche that wouldnt let the person over, and mash the brakes so that a completely different person can get in the lane in front of me. But you gotta have speed to fight evil on the freeway.

t walgamuth 02-18-2007 12:41 PM

yeah, when i am pulling my 35' travel trailer with my big dodge pickup folks often race up to get in front of me then pull in 20' ahead and immediately hit their brakes.

duhhhhhhhh!

tom w

ps thanks kmaysob for not using caps. it will give the cap nazi's someone else to harrass besides me.

A friend drives semi's for a living. His greatest annoyance is when people do this to his big-rig. In fact, car drivers will do the same thing to a gravel-hauler!

After the truck attempts to stop (with a braking distance far greater than even the worst of the cars out there) and runs out of room, hitting the vehicle in front, the truck's driver usually comes out worse. 18-wheelers don't yet have all of the built-in crash-resistance features and airbags of required of even the most basic cars.

The law usually insists that it was the truck's fault!

I watch folks in cars cut off semis all of the time! Ridiculous! As if no one has a basic understanding of the principles of dynamics!

Especially, in rush hour, as they try to squeeze in front of a semi and behind another vehicle...and don't realize the the semi driver can't even SEE the car until it's about 30 feet in front of them!

I wonder if semi drivers already know that they have to endure this idiocy every time they venture out! Same for morotcycle drivers!

Actually, these geniuses can cut off semis all they wish. They had better pray that they don't lose power at that very moment and they also better pray that the traffic doesn't cause them to hit the brakes right in front of the truck...........

.................because the truck isn't stopping..........

It seems to me like people in congested areas like here (Washington, DC) must get stressed out at work and then proceed to take these frustrations out on the rest of us on the way home.

I don't know what the explanation is for people doing this in the mornings. I guess their home life sucks as much as their jobs.

Yep. Plenty of them on the road.

It seems our lives have become so fast-paced, and technology promising to deliver everything NOW! that patience has descended from a virtue into an annoyance.

The main street that cuts through my quiet neighbourhood is used as a short cut between two major arteries during morning and afternoon rush hour.

Every morning, I watch cars blast down the 40 km/h street at double that, sometimes at 100 km/h+, which is insane given there are people out walking their dogs, kids playing, etc.

I like to make a point of driving the speed limit in the morning, and 'trapping' the short-cutters behind me, as they try and rush frantically to work. The final straw was when a woman in a minivan illegally passed my wife (who was doing the limit) on the right and my wife had a young child in the back seat.

So, the other morning, I did my usual slow down trick and had a couple of cars behind me. A woman in a minivan (who was quite possibly the previous culprit) drove right up my rear. Rode my a$$ down the street. Her minute reserve of patience must have ran out and she jerked out sideways and tried to pass me. I blocked her and hit the brakes, coming to a full stop. I forced her to do likewise and I turned and looked directly at her, shooting daggers. A dangerous manoeuvre perhaps, but is it any more dangerous than her passing me on the right, on icy roads, and potentially endangering both of us or a pedestrian?

I then proceeded down the street, and she stayed a respectable distance back for the duration of the trip. People tend to be pushy and aggressive in their vehicles, but once you penetrate that thin shell, they're usually far too scared to force an actual confrontation.

I'm currently negotiating with local politicians and police, and the neighbourhood association, to get a solution implemented.

In the meantime, I'll continue my little private crusade. :fork_off:

A LOT of folks down here are fed up with people racing through their neighborhoods...the answer is usually strategically-placed, Rocky-Mountain-sized' speed bumps!

Unfortunately, the requests are massively backlogged in our municipality... :dizzy2:

That's what is currently being negotiated - whether to install speedbumps or just signs, etc. I'd prefer speedbumps, but I can understand those who don't want them. The challenge is trying to pull everyone together for a concensus - neighbours, politicians, police, etc. :dizzy2:
