Lawyer/legal question concerning 17 yr old

My oldest son turns 18 next month. What will have to happen to get him off of my car insurance? Can I sign the title of the car over to him and be done with it?
thanks

Call the insurance company and have him removed from your policy. Have him call the insurance company to get insurance in hos name. I hope he has a lot of $$$ saved.

You may want to keep him on your policy but have him pay for it - his insurance will be so high he won't be able to drive with it. If he can't drive with insurance, he's going to end up in a bad place someday.

You can sign the title over to him and be done with the transfer that way, however. You mad at him?

You must be new here.

Once he turns 18 I can see where we are going to have some issues .

Not at all - just unfamiliar with his situation.

If he goes to college or other school far enough away from home, you get a break on your policy, even if he is still on it. Typically the insurance company wants to know how many licensed drivers are living in your house and they base much of your premiums on that.

In Texas it is like raymr says. If he lives in your house and has access to your cars (which is assumed by the fact he lives in your house) then your insurance will have to cover him.
